Meghann and Petrova take
New Haven Doubles Title

Meghann and doubles partner, Nadia Petrova have won the Pilot Pen Doubles Title at New Haven, beating Lisa Raymond and Martina Navratilova 6-1 1-6 7-6(4) in the Final.

This is their 4th doubles title of the year so far, and they continue to be one of the most successful WTA doubles pairings.

Meghann did less well in singles, losing to Mashona Washington in the 1st Round.

Meghann Wins Three Hour Epic at
French Open

Meghann Shaughnessy won a three hour long epic match to send 15th seed Silvia Farina Elia out of the French Open. Meghann eventually ground out a win to take the match 6-3 3-6 9-7.

Farina Elia of Italy led 0-3 and 3-5 in the 83 minute long final set, serving for the match twice. But Meghann was able to attack Elia's 2nd serves to break back, and used her own big serve to good effect to move ahead 8-7. Meghann clinched victory 9-7 with a stinging return of a second serve from Farina Elia.

The total points won - 113 by Shaughnessy, 112 to Farina Elia.

Meghann fired 5 aces in winning her first round match against Samantha Reeves of the USA 6-4 6-3. Shaughnessy now plays Magdalena Maleeva in the last 32

Meghann and Nadia Petrova Take
Italian Open Doubles Title

Meghann and Russian partner Nadia Petrova are fast becoming an irresistible force in Doubles, and continued their crushing run by taking the Italian Open Doubles Title in Rome. The duo again had to defeat World No 1 pairing, Virginia Ruano-Pascual and Paola Suarez in a hard-fought Final, coming through 2-6 6-3 6-3 to claim the title.

Meghann Defeats Jelena Dokic
in Berlin

Meghann beat Jelena Dokic of Yugoslavia 6-0 6-3, in the 1st Round of the German Open in Berlin. . However she fell in the 2nd Round to rising star Karolina Sprem of Croatia 6-2 7-6(3)

Meghann and Nadia Petrova Take
2nd Straight Doubles Crown!

Meghann and Russian partner Nadia Petrova have won their second major doubles title in as many weeks. The unseeded duo won their third title as a team with a 3-6 6-2 7-5 victory in the Final against Myriam Casanova and Alicia Molik, despite a sizzling 14 aces from the Swiss/Australian pairing.

Also for the second straight week, Petrova and Shaughnessy took out the top seeded tandem of Virginia Ruano Pascual and Paola Suarez - this time in the semifinals.

Petrova and Shaughnessy improve to 19-5 in doubles this year as each won their sixth career doubles title.

Meghann and Petrova Take NASDAQ-100 Doubles Title!

Meghann and hard-serving Russian partner Nadia Petrova have taken the Doubles Title at the Tier 1 NASDAQ-100 Open in Miami, Florida, beating Elena Likhovtseva and Svetlana Kuznetsova of Russia 6-2 6-3 in the final.

Meghann and Nadia did not have their serve broken in the match, managing an impressive average of 107 mph on the first serves. On their way to the final, they beat top seeds, and the world No 1 Doubles teaming of Virginia Ruano-Pascual and Paola Suarez 6-3 3-6 6-3 in the Quarter Final.

Petrova and Shaughnessy won their first title together last year in Moscow. They have now improved to a 15-5 win-loss balance for the season. Petrova and Shaughnessy have each now won their fifth career doubles title.

In Singles, Meghann suffered an early loss to Kristina Brandi of the USA 5-7 6-4 5-7 in the 2nd Round.

Meghann Powers into 4th Round
at Indian Wells

Meghann powered to a solid 6-4 6-4 win over Kristina Brandi in the 3rd round of the Tier 1, Pacific Life Tournament at Indian Wells, California, using 11 aces to help ensure that she held on to all of her service games. She won 87% of points on her first serve during the 1 hour 51 minute match, winning 100% of points on her first serve in the 2nd set. She served 6 double faults during the match.

Meghann lost her 4th round match to Lindsay Davenport of the USA 6-1 6-3
Meghann had had a convincing 6-1 6-2 win over Annabel Medina-Garrigues of Spain in the 2nd round of the tournament, serving 7 aces, and winning 81% of points on first serve. Her opponent managed to earn 6 break points on her serve, but Meghann saved all six, and was not broken during the match.

In DOUBLES, Meghann and partner, Nadia Petrova, reached the Quarter Finals, where they lost to Davenport and Morariu 5-7 7-5 1-6

Meghann Gone

Meghann was defeated in her Quarter Final match with the on-form Svetlana Kuznetsova of Russia in Doha. 6-4 1-6 3-6

"She was serving unbelievably in the first set. I was confused because I didn't expect it," said Kuznetsova. "But I knew she couldn't keep it up throughout. Otherwise she would have been much higher in the rankings," added the Russian about her challenger who is 30th in the rankings.

In their only previous clash, Shaughnessy won a gripping battle 3-6, 7-5, 11-9 in the first round of the French Open last year, in what became the longest match of 2003 with 41 games played.

Meghann fells Sugiyama

In the 2nd Round of the Qatar Open in Doha, Meghann upset 4th Seeded, World No 10 player Ai Sugiyama of Japan, easily, in straight sets, 6-3 6-2, to gain a Quarter Final berth against Svetlana Kusnetsova, the Russian losing Finalist in Dubai.

Molik Defeated in Qatar

2nd March 2004

Meghann defeated Australian No 1, Alicia Molik at the Qatar Open in Doha, Qatar, in a battle of the big servers. The score, 6-4, 6-3.

Meghann needed just one break in the third game to take the first set. She got her first serves in most of the time and produced some superb returns. Molik failed to raise her game in the second set and was broken in the fifth game, conceding the lead 2-4 to her opponent. Shaughnessy again broke Molik to love in the ninth game to book her place in the second round. "It was an important win for me. The strongest part of Molik's game is her serve," Meghann said.

"But I returned well and broke her three times in the match. I was keen to get my service game good and I didn't allow her to break me."

"I played some very good matches in Dubai last week. After my disastrous campaign in Australia earlier this year, I went back home, spent a lot of time in the gym," she said. "I am feeling good, better and stronger and that was reflected in my game in Dubai. I had three good victories in Dubai, the one against Myskina, perhaps, the best,"

Meghann beats Anastasia Myskina to reach Dubai Open Semis

Meghann upset 4th seeded Anastasia Myskina of Russia to reach the Semi Finals of the Tier 2 Dubai Open Tennis Championships. In a gruelling three set match with the world ranked 7th, Russian No 1 player, Meghann fought through to victory 7-6(2) 4-6 6-3.

Meghann reached the Dubai Quarter Final by beating Petra Mandula of Hungary 7-6(1) 6-4 in the 2nd Round.

In the 1st Round she had beaten another Hungarian, Aniko Kapros, 6-1 6-2 .

Meghann lost to eventual tournament winner, World No 1, Justine Henin-Hardenne in the Semi Final in an exciting, hard-fought match in which both played at a high level. 4-6 2-6.

DOUBLES: Meghann and partner, Roberta Vinci of Italy reached the Semi Finals of the Doubles, beating top seeds, Liezel Huber of South Africa and Ai Sugiyama of Japan, 3-6 7-5 7-6 in the Quarters. They beat Ani and Prusova 6-2 6-2 in their 1st round match.

Meghann and Roberta lost to Janette Husarova and Conchita Martinez in their Semi Final, 1-6 3-6

Australian Open Singles

Australian No.2, Nicole Pratt, overcame second set nerves to take down American No.17 seed, Meghann Shaughnessy in the first-round of the Australian Open 2004. Pratt earned herself a match point when she led by 6-4 5-4, but allowed Shaughnessy back into the contest with some loose play that saw Meghann turn the contest around, to take a 7-5 lead in the second set.

Pratt raced to a 4-1 lead in the final set but again Meghann came back to level the match at 4-4 before Pratt ran out the winner 6-4 5-7 6-4 with a fist-pumping display of elation. Overall it was an outstanding display by Pratt who got 74 per cent of first serves in and made just nine unforced errors to Shaughnessy's 24. Meghann reached the Quarter Finals here last year and so stands to lose a lot of ranking points.

Adidas Tournament Sydney

Meghann went one better than at the Gold Coast, to reach the 2nd Round of the Adidas Sydney International Tennis Tournament this week against a strong field.

In the first round, Meghann scored a convincing victory over Asa Svensson of Sweden, 6-1 6-2, but lost in the 2nd round to No. 3 seeded Amelie Mauresmo of France. 2-6 3-6

In Doubles, Meghann is teamed up with teenage rising star, Dinara Safina of Russia here. They beat Jill Craybas and Asa Svensson 6-3 6-3 in the 1st round. In the Quarter Final the scratch pairing beat the 2nd seeds Liesel Huber and Ai Sugiyama 6-4 6-4

In the Semi Final, Meghann and Dinara defeated Elena Bovina and Conchita Martinez 6-2 6-3 to reach the Final, where they lost to Cara Black and Rennae Stubbs 5-7 6-3 4-6.

Surprise Loss at Gold Coast

6th January 2004

Meghann went down to a surprise defeat to wild carded 153rd ranked Australian, Samantha Stosur, at the Season starting Uncle Toby's Hardcourt Championship in Gold Coast, Australia.

Samantha Stosur in winning form.

Stosur, 19, served 10 aces and dominated the bigger points with her compact first serve to close out a 7-6 (7-3), 6-3 verdict over fourth seed Shaughnessy, ranked No. 17 in the world.

Meghann will hpefully improve on this 1st Round loss in her future matches. Last year she won the 2003 Canberra title, and also made the Australian Open quarter-finals.

In DOUBLES, Meghann and Nadia Petrova beat Bedanova and Serna 6-4 6-3, before losing to Tanasugarn and Tatarkova in the Quarter Finals , 3-6 6-3 5-7

Losses at Stuttgart and Zurich

Meghann had some disappointing results at the indoor tournaments at Filderstadt, Stuttgart in Germany, and Zurich in Switzerland.

At Filderstadt Meghann lost to 5th seeded Amelie Mauresmo of France 6-7(4) 2-6. However she reached the Semi-Finals in doubles partnered by Nadia Petrova. They beat Anastasia Myskina and Vera Zvonareva
6-4 6-3, and Liesel Huber and Maggie Maleeva 6-4 6-2

They fell in the Semi to Cara Black and Martina Navratilova 6-7(4) 4-6

In Zurich, Meghann lost to 7th seeded Vera Zvonareva of Russia
0-6 6-4 6-7(3). In doubles Meghann and Nadia lost to Top Seeds, Clijsters and Sugiyama 6-3 4-6 4-6

Meghann Takes Doubles Title!

Meghann, and partner Nadia Petrova of Russia have taken the Womens Doubles Title at the Kremlin Cup Tier 1 Tournament in Moscow. They defeated Anastasia Myskina and Vera Zvonareva of Russia in the Final, 6-3 6-4

On their way to the title, Meghann and Nadia beat:-
2nd seeded Black and Likhovtseva in the Semi Finals: 6-3 6-0
Husarova and Schnyder in the Quarter Finals: 6-2 7-6(6)
Kondratieva and Kozhokina in the 1st Round: 6-2 6-1

Moscow Loss for Meghann

At the Tier 1 Kremlin Cup in Moscow, Meghann fell to Eleni Daniilidou of Greece, 5-7 3-6, in the first round of the Singles Tournament.

Meghann Loses to Callens in Leipzig

23rd September 2003

Meghann lost a close match with big-serving Belgian Els Callens at the start of the European Indoor season at Leipzig, Germany.

The match turned on two tie-breaks, Meghann losing 6-7(4) 6-7(4)

Meghann Reaches 4th Round of US Open

September 2003

Meghann had her best ever US Open performance, reaching the Third round of the Singles Championship.

She beat Carolina Sprem in the 1st Round 6-3 6-2
She then defeated Maja Matevzic in the 2nd Round 6-3 7-5
In the 3rd round she upset Vera Zonareva, 13th Seed 4-6 6-4 6-2
She lost to Top Seed Kim Clijsters in the Round of 16
2-6 4-6
