Introduction. 5 Jul 1942, Berlin, according to Allg.Heeresmitteilungen 581/42 all Schützen-Regimenter in Panzer-Divisionen were renamed and reorganized Panzergrenadier-Regimenter for boosting morale and extending tradition of the Prussian Army. The transformation was not title only, with the increased providing of SPW into Schützen-Regiment after 1942 the weapons and fighting technique of them also had been changed. However, the production of SPW still could not catch up with the need so most of Panzer-Divisionen had only one battalion equipped with SPW, some of them had only one company equipped with SPW and few of them even did not have any SPW before the Operation Blau in 1942. No matter they were equipped with SPW or not, they were all named Panzergrenadier-Regimenter.
