The
Kradschuetzen for Africa Campaign. The 21. Panzer-Division
was converted from 5. leichte-Division for Africa Campaign in August 1941.
The division received Schuetzen-Regiment 104 and Kradschuetzen-Bataillon
15 from the 15. Panzer-Division in September 1941. The Kradschuetzen-Bataillon
15 became the third battalion of Schuetzen-Regiment 104. The 15. Panzer-Division
kept Aufklaerung-Abteilung (mot) 33 and there was no motorcycle reconnaissance
company in the battalion. The 90. leichte Afrika-Division was raised for
Africa Campaign in November 1941 and there was no organic motorcycle rifle
battalion in the division at that time.
The
Kradschuetzen for Africa Campaign. The 10. Panzer-Division
was sent to Tunisia in December 1942. The Kradschuetzen-Bataillon 10 was
also converted to Panzeraufklaerung-Abteilung 10 in March 1943. The division
was destroyed in Tunisia and never reformed. The famous Brigade (mot)
"HG" expanded to a fully motorized division in November 1942
and Aufklaerung-Abteilung (mot) "HG" was raised under the division
command. There was one motorcycle reconnaissance company in the battalion.
The division was sent to Tunisia in early 1943 in the formation of Kampfgruppe
"Schmid". The Aufklaerung-Abteilung (mot) "HG" was
also involved. The Kampfgruppe "Schmid" was destroyed in Tunisia
and the division was reformed in Italy as Panzer-Division "HG".
The 15. and 21. Panzer-Divisions were also destroyed in Tunisia. The 15.
Panzer-Division was reformed as 15. Panzergrenadier-Division in July 1943
and Panzeraufklaerung-Abteilung 115 was not reformed until late 1943.
The 21. Panzer-Division was reformed in July 1943 and Panzeraufklaerung-Abteilung
21 was reformed at the same time. The 90. and 164. leichte Afrika-Divisions
were destroyed in Tunisia. The 90. leichte Afrika-Division was reformed
as 90. Panzergrenadier-Division in July 1943 and Panzeraufklaerung-Abteilung
90 was not reformed until October 1943. The 164. leichte Afrika-Division
was never reformed.
