Dave Matthews Band: Everyday
One of the top groups of our time. Despite the new sound, there are still many touches
of older Dave Matthews Band albums included. "I Did It," opens the CD in an
aggressive groove, while "When the World Ends" follows with clipped licks that
dive into a muddier, open-flowing chorus. From there on out, the floodgates open into
something that often recalls Peter Gabriel, which is ironic, given that the band replaced
producer Steve Lillywhite, whose work with Gabriel is legendary, with Glen Ballard, whose
work with Alanis Morissette is of equal note, if not acclaim.
Bob Marley: The Best Of Bob
Marley & The Wailers
Pearl Jam: Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania (Live; 2 Discs; "Bootleg")
Best set of US Tour. The Pittsburgh set includes rare tracks such as "Wash" and "Crazy Mary", and culminates with the encore of The Who's Classic "Baba O'Riley". Also the interlude in "Daughter" contains a rare cover of Sonic Youths "Bull in the Heather". Listen to Stone gossards vocals on the rarely played live "Mankind".
O Brother, Where Art
Thou? (Various Artists; Soundtrack)
A marvelous collection of songs. Folk, Blues, Bluegrass, Spiritual, Gospel - the soulful sounds of America. Every song in the movie is on this CD! Producer T Bone Burnett enlists the voices of Alison Krauss, Gillian Welch, Emmylou Harris, Ralph Stanley, and kindred spirits for performances of traditional material, in arrangements that are either a cappella or feature bare-bones accompaniment. Highlights range from the aching purity of Krauss's "Down to the River to Pray" to the plainspoken faith of the Whites' "Keep on the Sunny Side" to Stanley's chillingly plaintive "O Death." The album's spiritual centerpiece finds Krauss, Welch, and Harris harmonizing on "Didn't Leave Nobody but the Baby," a gospel lullaby that sounds like a chorus of Appalachian angels.
