No One Else Comes Close

He quickly, quietly slipped into her room.
It was late.  Obscenely late.
She was asleep.
“Good,” he whispers in a thick Cajun accent.
He slowly walks over to the bed, and looks down at her.  His heart misses a few beats as he looks at her.  God she was beautiful.  She looked like a goddess, her bare brown skin shimmering in the silver moonlight.  She was turned towards him and the window he came through.  He looked at her face. Her eyes were still puffy from crying.  He didn’t like it when she cried.  He didn’t like it when someone caused her hurt.  His eyes glare red for a second as he looks down at her.  She sniffs sadly and turns on her side away from him.
He leans down and pulls the cover from off the floor.  He wraps it around her.  A single tear rolls down her cheek as he stands up.  He bends over and kisses her tear away.  He strokes her silver hair before sitting on the edge of the bed.
“Stormy,” he whispers softly.
He waits for a reaction but gets none.  He sighs deeply.
“Stormy, Gambit got ta tell ya som’thin’,” he whispers rubbing her back.  “Gambit glad dat ya sleep cuz he nevah tell ya dis if ya awake.  He takes a deep breath.  Gambit don’ like when ya come home cryin’.  He don’ like da way dat no mattah wha ya keep goin’ back to get hurt.  Gambit don’ like seein’ his Stormy hurt.  It make Gambit hurt.  Ya know dat Stormy, but dere’s som’thin’ else Gambit got ta tell ya.
“Gambit love ya chere. Not like da love ya have f’ me, but love dat stronger dan Gambit’s love for Rogue.  Gambit can’ nevah tell ya cuz ya don’ feel da same way.  Only if ya knew dat Gambit go through many t’ings to profess his love for his Stormy.  Evah since Stormy grew up Gambit love ya.  When Gambit met Rogue, all he see is whi’e stripe remindin’ him of his Stormy.  Got ta know Rogue and kinda liked her.
“But she wasn’ good enough’ to stop Gambit thinkin’ of his Stormy.  Ah try ta block ya out o’ my mind when ah wit’ her, it just dat no one can come close to my Stormy.  Da though’t of ya drive moi crazy.  Den ah realize why.  Ah crazy in love wit’ ya Stormy.  But ah just can’ tell ya while yah awake.  Dere ah said it.”
He gets up and sighs.  He looks down at her and smiles.  He walks to her window and looks out before leaving.
“No one else comes close Stormy.  Damn ah love ya!”
Quickly and quietly he leaves her room.
Ororo opens her eyes a little bit.
She heard every word he had said.
