"And The Lost Shall Be Found"

The Stormy Horizons Series

Part One

It was a typical March night in New York. The lights were bright, the crowds walking the streets, the wind starting its seasonal whistling. This night though, philosophical minds gathered to hear a great, but young researcher who often would give lectures over genetic Mutations (a.k.a. Mutants). The hall was packed with professors and commoners, inquiring mutants and hateful norms.

The lecturer stood backstage nervously praying.

<Goddess let this be the night I find her. Let this be the night I finally find the missing link. Goddess please let my sister be here this night. >

When the crowd grew more and more restless, she made her way to the podium slowly looking around. Her bright brown eyes glittered as the lights shined brightly in her eyes. Her hair was neatly braided into one braid that hung loosely down to her waist. She began to speak.

"Ladies and Gentlemen of the audience, I am here to share with you the genetic findings of my research. Many of you are sitting here eager to her the results of my research, and some are here to see if ‘mutants’ are nature’s ‘mistakes’...or the next step in human evolution"

The crowd began to whisper at this statement.

"Just as we evolved from Homo-Neanderthal, so have mutants evolved form us. The result of my study: mutants are the next step in human evolution and in 150 years, there will only be memoirs of the Homo-Sapiens."

The crowd was in an uproar.

One man stood up screaming, "How can you say a thing like that? Do you know what kind of danger those mutants pose to us?"

"Well, what make you think we’re not mutants ourselves? Think about it; the true real humans are Homo-Neanderthal. Homo-Sapiens are no more than a mutant version of Homo-Neanderthal. And about 200 years after the first Homo-Sapiens appeared Homo-Neanderthal simply dissipated. There was a reason for Homo-Sapiens appeared; they appeared because they were better fit for the changing environment. Now that the earth’s environment is changing due to radioactive, chemical and other forms of pollution, mutants are appearing to adapt to the environment."

The crowd soon began to dwindle in numbers.

"And further more it is estimated that 55% of people living in the city of New York are mutant, most mutations not very apparent, but very adaptive to the environment."

The place was relatively empty by now, only a man in a hovering chair and 4 others remained.

"If any would like to discuss this matter further, please meet me backstage"

She sat there thinking, <What a fool I am. To think that I, an eighteen year old could ever conceive the idea of giving this lecture. This was a big mistake. I don’t understand, here I am with a Ph.D. in Bio-Genetics and_>

Suddenly, there was a knock on the door. She suddenly perked up to create the illusion of hope, but feared the worse. She cautiously opened the door. In the stood the man in the hovering chair and 4 other, one of which had long white hair and blue eye.

<My goddess> She thought to herself <‘she looks like...could she be?’>

The man spoke softly "Hello, I am Professor Charles Xavier. I was listening to your lecture and would like to discuss the matter further with you."

"You’re not going to kill me are you?"

"Not at all, dear child. I and some of my students found you lecture very interesting and worth

discussing further."

"Since you put it that way, let us discuss this matter at my apartment."

They nodded in agreement.

About 45 minutes later, they were at her apartment. The youngest looking of the crowd looked astonished at the attire and size of the apartment.

"Wow! How do you afford all this?"

"My research, a few patents and some wealthy tenants pretty good. I own this whole building because one of my clients wanted a device that changes the appearance of the wearer. That was about 2 years ago. Now I get money from the tenants that reside here, and they are loaded."

"A device that changes the person’s image?" The big, blue furred man looked astonished at this. "You mean an image inducer."

"Whatever you want to call it. It paid off big time."

The other two of the crowd looks around the apartment as well.

"Oh, you must forgive me I haven’t formally introduced myself. I am Dr.Ora Nandia Munroe, Biogenetic researcher. And you are?"

"I am Dr. Henry McCoy, these are my colleagues Jubilation Lee, Mrs. Jean Summers, Ororo Munroe and last, but most certainly not least, Professor Charles Xavier"

"It is a pleasure to meet you."

Storm looked around just as the other had, and noticed a picture. There was something familiar about the picture. The face, it was something about the face. She turned to Dr. Munroe.

"Dr. Munroe, could you please tell me who the person in the picture is?"

"Ah, the picture." <‘It’s her, its truly her’> "Do you recognize the woman in it?"

"Yes, she looks almost...familiar...like I know her?"

"Ah, so you remember."

"Remember what?"

"The woman. She is… I’m uh, do you really want to know now?"

She rose form her seat as the other looked at her strangely. "What is it? ...Are you hiding something?"

"Um..." <‘Gosh this is going to be hard to break to her...what if she throws a tantrum...just break it to her and let her figure the rest’> "Well, her name is N’Dare Munroe. She was married to David Munroe and she had another child before me who I’ve been searching for, for the past 10 years. She survived a crash that happened 19 years ago and he lost her daughter during the crash."

Ororo stood there looking as if the pages of her life were being re-written by the skeletons of the past. She was speechless and stunned. The rest of her colleagues eyed the two of them; they were speechless themselves at the sound of this.

<‘Great, just great. Not a word. This is getting scary’>

Ororo finally opened mouth to say something.

"All these years... and… I... You’re my...sister?"

She held her head down expecting the worse, but to her surprise she was met with an embracing hug by her long lost sibling...
