Ringo bought the lease of the maisonette at 34 Montagu Square (ground and lower ground floor) in early 1965 just before marrying Maureen. He held onto it after they moved to Sunny Heights, and it was used by the Beatles when they were working late in the city. It was sublet to Jimi Hendrix and his manager Chas Chandler in 1967, and Jimi famously ruined the silk wallpaper and curtains by trying to paint them. Cynthia Lennon's mother Lillian Powell lived there for a short while at the end of 1967, and Cynthia joined her there when John decided to divorce her, before it was decided that Lillian, Cynthia and Julian move into the family home and let John and Yoko stay at Montagu Square. They moved in during July 1968 and shot the cover for the Two Virgins album there. They were arrested for drug posession from there in October 1968 and because of this the landlords of the property won an injunction against Ringo to prevent "illegal, immoral or improper" use of the flat, so he sold his lease and allowed John and Yoko to move into Sunny Heights before selling that property too.
