Oh-so-dreamy about her new boss - Maureen Cox relaxing with Ringo yesterday
|
EIGHTEEN-YEAR-OLD Maureen Cox, just back from a Caribbean holiday with Beatle Ringo Starr, spoke for the first time last night of their friendship.
"We are not getting married, that's for sure," she said.
Ringo, squatting on Maureen's knee at his Knightsbridge, London, home, confirmed: "Maureen's not gonna be my wife, but I have other ideas for her."
Twenty-three-year-old Ringo grinned. "Maureen," he said, "is to be my personal secretary. She can give my mum and dad a hand with the fan mail."
No return
Maureen, from Liverpool, butted in: "I'm not going back to my hairdressing job. I didn't like it at all."
About her holiday - which she began while off sick from work - Maureen explained: "My mum and dad knew I was going away with Ringo and the boys. I didn't want to tell anyone else.
"If Mrs. Giles, the lady I worked for, wants to sack me she is wasting her time. I am not going back there anyway."
Maureen will not start her new job as Ringo's personal secretary "for a few days yet." Said Ringo: "She will just be taking it easy for a while."
Of marriage and rumours he added: "It is not true at all. Maureen is my girl friend and nothing more. I like girls - you might say I am attracted to them, particularly Maureen.
"What do I have to do to keep people from talking about us - go out with boys?"
The envy
Maureen, casual in a blue chiffon blouse with a roll collar, nodded: "That's right. I am a girl friend and no more.
"Oh, yes, I suppose I am the envy of millions of other girls. But it is just an ordinary boy-and-girl affair. There is nothing serious about it."
She has not decided yet when she is going home to her parents in Liverpool. "I have written to mum." she said. "They know I am all right."
What part of the holiday thrilled Maureen most? "It was all wonderful," she said.
