Abstract of the research report
- The report documents a study of strategic
design management in Royal Mail (UK's postal service). The research
was facilitated by RM Consulting (an internal consultancy of
Royal Mail). It takes a holistic view by uncovering the core
issues of design management and examining them in the business.
Through these issues, the success of design management in general
at Royal Mail is evaluated.
- The methodology that guides the research
is explained thoroughly. Key terms are defined to make their
meaning in the report explicit. The key findings of the literature
search are documented. Then the background obtained in Royal
Mail is presented, followed by the primary research of the project,
which examines how the organization handles crucial design management
issues. A work placement at Landor Associates is described, and
its relationship to the project is shown. The primary research
is summarized in the analysis section. All of the above is synthesized
and interpreted in the evaluation section. Positive recommendations
for the future come from this evaluation.
