Ignatian Mission & Identity Committee
May 9, 2006
Attendance:
Thomas Auffenberg, Thomas Cummings, S.J., Thom Digman, Daniel Finucane, Kate Hochmuth , Ralph Houlihan, S.J., Michael Marchlewski, S.J., Mark Michalski, Matthew Sciuto, and Matthew Stewart..
Absent:
Robert Bannister, Timothy Chik, and Shane Mulligan.
The meeting was called to order at 3:15 p.m. with a prayer and reflection offered by Fr. Houlihan.
Ralph Houlihan, S.J. welcomed all in attendance and introduce the student representatives for the upcoming year. The students are Michael Finucane, Kyle McCollom and Joey Vitale. Fr. Houlihan asked the members of the Committee to recognize and thank Dan Finucane and Shane Mulligan for their service the Committee and to wish them well as they continue their education and formation in the future.
Fr. Houlihan then requested approval of the February 16, 2006 minutes. Upon a motion made by Fr. Cummings, seconded by Mr. Stewart, the motion passed unanimously.
Fr. Houlihan asked Mr. Stewart to present to the Committee the results of his investigation and analysis of the Student Chapel and his recommendations for action. Mr. Stewart opened a discussion of the organization of the chapel and outlined for the Committee impediments he sees inhibiting full student participation in liturgies and services held there. He recounted for the Committee the history and scope of renovations which have taken place in the Student Chapel and raised several areas of concern about the quality and longevity of the improvements. A lengthy discussion followed. Upon a motion made by Mr. Digman, seconded by Fr. Marchlewski, the motion passed unanimously to recommend to the Board the undertaking of a program of analysis and renovation of the Student Chapel along the terms and conditions attached hereto and incorporated herein by this reference.
A discussion was then held on addressing a long range plan for the invitation, education and practice of spirituality among the various constituencies at SLUH. Fr. Houlihan, S.J. appointed the following subcommittee to work with Mr. Laughlin on this issue: Mr. Laughlin, Mr. Auffenberg, Dr. Bannister, Mr. Digman, Mr. Mulligan, and Fr. Houlihan.
As the hour was drawing late, Fr. Houlihan, S.J. informed the committee that meeting dates were being established for the upcoming 2006-2007 school year and that the Committee would be informed of these dates upon approval by the Board of Trustees.
All meetings will commence at 3:15 p.m. in the St. Ignatius Conference Room.
The meeting adjourned at 4:15 p.m.
