Ignatian Mission & Identity Committee

August 30, 2005

Attendance:
Thomas Auffenberg, Timothy Chik, Thom Digman, Daniel Finucane, Ralph Houlihan, S.J., Michael Marchlewski, S.J., Mark Michalski, Shane Mulligan, Matthew Sciuto, Matthew Stewart, and Kate Hochmuth. Special Guest: Joseph Vitale.

Absent:
Thomas Cummings, S.J. and Robert Bannister.

The meeting was called to order at 3:15 p.m. with a prayer offered by Ralph Houlihan, S.J. Thomas Auffenberg was welcomed to the committee as a representative of the Board of Trustees.

Ralph Houlihan, S.J. welcomed all in attendance and requested approval of the May 3, 2005 minutes. Upon a motion made by Thom Digman., seconded by Mark Michalski, the motion passed unanimously.

Ralph Houlihan, S.J. called upon Matthew Stewart to give an overview of the implementation of the school wide Examen Period this school year. A discussion followed.

Michael Marchlewski, S.J., Timothy Chik, and Matthew Stewart then led a discussion on the draft of the foundational or visioning document prepared by the subcommittee regarding the charge of this committee. A draft of the document as revised at the meeting is attached for informational purposes only. Timothy Chik will forward a proposed final copy for action at the next meeting.

Ralph Houlihan, S.J. introduced our guest, Mr. Joseph Vitale, to make a presentation to the group concerning a new youth bible study and prayer group he had been working to create at SLUH. A lengthy discussion followed.

As the hour was drawing late, Ralph Houlihan, S.J. suggested the Committee reschedule the remaining agenda items for the next meeting. He informed the committee of upcoming meeting dates for the 2005-2006 school year. Those dates are:

August 30, 2005
October 26, 2005
February 28, 2006
May 9, 2006

All meetings will commence at 3:15 p.m. in the St. Ignatius Conference Room.

The meeting adjourned at 4:15 p.m.

ACTION ITEMS

ALL MEMBERS: Attempt to incorporate the Examination of Consciousness into their daily lives.
Timothy Chik and Matthew Stewart: Revise the foundational or visioning document for distribution to the committee for their review, modification and approval.
