Ignatian Mission & Identity Committee
May 3, 2005

Attendance:
Timothy Chik, Thomas Cummings, S.J., Thom Digman, Daniel Finucane, Ralph Houlihan, S.J., Michael Marchlewski, S.J., Shane Mulligan, Matthew Sciuto, Matthew Stewart, and Kate Thaman.

Absent:
Robert Bannister and Mark Michalski.

The meeting was called to order at 3:15 p.m. with a prayer offered by Ralph Houlihan, S.J.

Ralph Houlihan, S.J. welcomed all in attendance and requested approval of the March 1, 2005 minutes. Upon a motion made by Thomas Cummings, S.J., seconded by Kate Thaman, the motion passed unanimously.

Michael Marchlewski, S.J., Timothy Chik, and Matthew Stewart then led a discussion on the draft of the foundational or visioning document prepared by the subcommittee regarding the charge of this committee. A draft of the document as revised at the meeting is attached for informational purposes only. Final action and approval will take place at the committees August meeting and will be forwarded at that time for Board of Trustee review and approval.

A discussion was then held on the posting of committee minutes for view on the committee’s web page created by Matthew Sciuto. By general agreement of the committee it was determined that minutes would be posted after formal committee approval and be for general public information.

Matthew Sciuto and Thom Digman then reviewed with the committee several research documents collected relating to Ignatian mission and identity at Jesuit high schools, reviewed with the committee the number of programs and resources currently underway at SLUH and other Jesuit high schools, and discussed the resources available on the JSEA web site. A lengthy discussion followed.

Ralph Houlihan, S.J. informed the committee of upcoming meeting dates for the 2005-2006 school year. Those dates are:
August 30, 2005
October 26, 2005
February 28, 2006
May 9, 2006
All meetings will commence at 3:15 p.m. in the St. Ignatius Conference Room.

Thomas Cummings, S.J. discussed with the committee the book which was distributed to all committee members and the plans for the creation of an Ignatian foundational document reading and study center over the summer in the St. Ignatius Conference Room.

A document outlining the Examination of Consciousness based upon the Spiritual Exercises of St. Ignatius of Loyola was distributed and discussed.

Shane Mulligan led the committee in a final prayer.

The meeting adjourned at 4:15 p.m.

ACTION ITEMS:

ALL MEMBERS: Attempt to incorporate the Examination of Consciousness into their daily lives.
Timothy Chik and Matthew Stewart: Revise the foundational or visioning document for distribution to the committee for their review, modification and approval.
Thom Digman: Work with Mr. Zinselmeyer to get all committee and trustees credentialed to access the JSEA web site.
Thom Digman: Get binders for all of the committee members for organizing and keeping important committee information.
