BIOGRAPHY:
Alexander Tough was born in approximately 1894 in Durban, South Africa. His parents were Alexander and Jane Tough (formerly Carter).
Alexander's parents were from the North East of England. They married there and had their first three children in Sunderland. Some time before the birth of Alexander the family moved to Durban where he was born. However, they obviously didn't settle there as a few years later they returned to Sunderland.
In 1907 Alexander's parents decided to emigrate to America where they stayed and brought up their family. Alexander's father and eldest brother, James William, land first on 26 March 1907. Alexander's mother, Jane, brought over Alexander and his five other siblings about six months later on 8 October 1907. On it, Alexander's mother records that she is going to stay with her husband, Alex Tough, of 412 S Avenue, Rochester. Unfortunately, this is not very clear to read.
I do not know too much about what happened to the family after they landed in the US though I think, below, is the Social Security Record of Alexander.
