Emily Olivia Masters was born on 26th August 2004 at Oakville Trafalgar Memorial Hospital. She was 7lbs 10oz at birth. Emily is the first grandchild for Chris's parents Frank & Jennifer Masters and also Tracy's parents, Peter & Barbara Richardson. In fact, she is also the first great-grandchild for all of Chris and Tracy's grandparents. As of early October (five weeks old) she is starting to smile at familiar faces and more and more of her personality is coming out. She appears to be slow to wake up (like her mother) and likes her food (like her father). Her sleeping patterns are getting better and we are now expecting five hours of sleep in a block overnight. She still has a problem with gas after eating but I think that is true of all of us! As of March 2005 (six months old) she has now been laughing and smiling for many months. She has recently been able to sit-up unaided (as you can see in the below pictures) and can also standup if we help her balance. She still doesn't like to be on her front so she may just go straight to walking. Emily now enjoys cereal and the first of the vegetables (squash, carrots, sweet potatoes etc). She always opens up wide and makes hhhmmmm sounds when she eats! By the end of April 2005 she is almost crawling. She can get into the crawling position and rocks herself. It seems that she doesn't yet have the confidence to move her hands without falling over. She loves to sit on the floor and play with things. She also manages to move a few a couple of feet in any direction just from stretching for her toys. Emily was very close to crawling before we went on our holiday back to England at the end of May. She occasionally took one step before either falling or giving up. As soon as we got to England she started crawling almost straight away. We think it was because she was finally on carpet as opposed to hardwood flooring. She also pulled herself up to a standing position for the first time while we were there. Now that we are back in Canada she has started to investigate her surrounding more and more since she is now so much more mobile. When we pick her up from the crib in the morning she is often standing waiting for us. |
