A few days later I was thinking to myself that it was perhaps time to look for another place to live. My Wife is due in about two weeks and I would not want to put her through a move right now. So I am looking at least another month in this apartment with any luck perhaps when the baby comes things will settle down in the area of strange events. I can only imagine the confusion that will take place with a baby in the house.
Well about a week and a half went by with out anything out of the norm taking place but then again normal in our house hold is not the norm as time has proven. It was now the night of October 20th I was laying in bed trying to get some sleep when my wife hit me in the back. I jumped up in bed and asked her what was the problem. She had started labor I found out that was just the start of the punching she would do to me I don't know what was more painful my wife hitting me and grabbing my arm with the strength of three people or giving birth. Any ways we got to the hospital and they rushed her into the delivery room. We have a beautiful 8lb-baby girl with a full head of hair. We were both very excited and scared of the future but we knew we could deal with it.
It has now been 4 days since my daughter was born I brought my wife and baby home we made it to the Apt . Every thing at this time was great no problems in the apt every one was happy felt like a true family now. I was hopping we would not have any more problems in the apt.
Two months have now past with out any problems with in the apartment. Other than wakening up in the middle of the night to care for a child which is normal. My wife and I took turns every other night it was my night for the feeding. I had thought every thing went ok I got the baby and fed her and rocked her back to sleep and put her back in her crib then went to bed. I woke up the next morning to find my wife sitting in the living room with the baby. I looked at her and she seem to have been crying I asked her what was the problem. She looked at me and told me to never scare her like that again. I was totally confused at this point! What do you mean not scare you like that what did I do? She looked at me and said you don't remember? No I don't what did I do? She told me I came back into the bed room at around 3am and woke her up and told her we Need to get the baby out of this apt as fast as we can then I went to sleep.
Well this kind of blew me right out of the tree. I don't remember ever saying anything like that I know if my wife said I did then I must have. I decided it was time to get out of the apartment but I wanted to know what was going on first so I called the landlady and asked to meet with her. She agreed I was to be at her house at 11 a.m. today to talk to her. I asked my wife if she wanted to come along she said no she did not want to go. So I went by myself and talked with Mrs. Ackermen by myself. I got there around 5 till 11 a.m. I am always early. I knocked on the door and she came and let me into her house she is a very pleasant older lady. She had coffee and Cake for me. She kind of made me not want to ask the questions I wanted to ask. As we sat in her living room her on the couch me in a large fluffy chair. She started the conversation out by asking how my new baby was doing. I told her great she was growing like a weed. We made small talk for about `15 mins then I decided it was time to start asking some questions.
I did not want to upset her so I was trying to be as easy as I could. I told her Mrs. Ackermen we have lived in the apartment for some time now. She agreed that we where her best tenants and that she was very happy that she rented us the apartment. It was not making my task any easier with her saying things like that. Mrs. Ackermen we have noticed some rather odd happenings in the apartment I was wondering what was the history behind the apartment? You would have thought I had tossed cold water on the lady. She sat back in the couch and looked at me and put her coffee cup down. I told her I did not want to upset her but we need to know we have a young baby now and I need to know what is going on. Then she told me I was spelled bound for about thirty mins as she talked.
She said the apartment was built back in 1955 and the owner use to live in the apartment I live in now. She said that one evening in July of 1958 the owner was in the living room and killed him self. His wife continued to live in the apartment after that managing the other units. She went on to tell me that the wife was a loner and would not leave the apartment that she would have groceries delivered by the local store. She became a recluse with in the apartment in 1961 the neighbors or the other tenants had not seen her or heard from her. They contacted the local police department they came out and went into the apartment. Trash was piled up to the ceiling and they found her laying in the hall way dead. They have never classified the death just marked it died of natural causes. She went on to tell me they knew nothing about this till after her and her husband bought the apartments. We bought the apartments in 1963 and lived in that same apartment. I stopped her and told her if she did not want to talk any more about this it was fine with me. She said no that she wanted to, besides we deserve to hear the story because we live in the apartment.
She went on. We found out about this after closing on the apartment. The families' attorney told us the full story and said the Family would remodel the apartment before we moved in. My husband and I figured that would be ok we did not want to give up a good investment. We lived in the apartment for four years before we started noticing things. Like what Things I asked? Well we would here knocking on the floor things being moved around in the kitchen late at night. We knew it was not from next door because that apartment was vacant at the time. My husband would get real upset at the sounds and try and find out what was causing it. At this point I was getting scared because that was the same thing I was doing.
She asked that what she was about to tell me had to stay between us for now. I agreed and she went on to tell me what had happen. I it was on November 24th in 1968 that I had noticed a change in John. That is her husband. He was very quiet and would not talk much. I asked him if there was anything wrong? She told me he looked at her and said No dear I am just fine. She said I hear those words every day of my life now. Well it was early in the evening I was in the kitchen when I heard john talking in the bedroom. We only had one phone and that was in the kitchen. I walked in the hallway and I could hear hem holding a conversation with some one else I could even hear the other person. I walked into the bedroom only to find John sitting on the side of the bed he looked at me and was crying. He asked me to leave the bedroom he was ok I asked him who he was talking too? He said no one just please leave him alone for now.
I went back to the kitchen to finish up what I was doing and I was very upset at this point. When I heard a Gun shot from the bedroom. I fell to my knees and just started to cry I knew what had happen and did not do anything to stop it. I broke in now and said Mrs. Ackermen please don't put your self through this again I have heard enough. At this point I was sitting on the couch next to her holding her hand. I was a total wreck by now she looked at me and said please if you are seeing things in the apartment Get you beautiful wife and child out of their. I will let you brake the lease with out any problems. I looked at her and told her that I would she sighed in relieve and told me that she would assist us in fining another apartment. I stayed till I knew she was ok then I left to go home. I really felt sorry for her she had lived through a trying time.
That evening we went over to the two apartments the second one was great we fell in love with it. and took that one. A few days later when we moved in our new landlord came by and asked how every thing was going. I said great, I wrote him a check out for the first months rent. He told me not to worrier about that it was already taken care of. I looked at him and I must have looked confused he smiled and said Mrs. Ackermen took care of the first months rent for you. I was shocked I told him I need to call her. He recommended I not do that she was a very honest person if she did not want to do that she would not have done so.
Till about 1985 We would receive A Christmas card every year from Mrs. Ackermen my daughter with out fail would receive a birthday card from her with a small check. In 1986 we did not hear from her and have not heard from her since we found that out a few years later Mrs Ackermen died in her sleep on November 24th 1986. The day her husband killed him self talk about Ironic..
The story you have read about the apartment is a true story. I can say this because It happened to me I lived the experience. I use to be a real skeptic in matters of this type before this happened. Now I am a firm believer that something is going on that we just can not explain away. What is it I have no Idea why is it again I have no Idea. It will take some one with far more knowledge in these matters to come to that conclusion. So if you are in your house or apartment and you hear something out of the norm remember you may not be alone!
