Kuching Grand Slam Tour 2006

MAS Veterans had a successful Kuching Grand Slam Tour 2006 when they beat KCHMAS FC 2-0 and 3-0 in two friendlies. Even though they had to play two games in two days, the team managed to absorb the pressure of Kuching's nightlife and gave outstanding performances on the pitch. The matches were played at Stadium Negeri Sarawak, where it used to be the home for Sarawak's state team a.k.a Bujang Senang. And Bujang Senang it was, because some of the players were quick to taste the local delicacies (mee kolok, laksa Sarawak, gambir etc etc), and some even had the time to visit Satok and went as far as Sarikin for some serious shoppings.

The team arrived at KCH on Friday 24 March and checked into Hilton Kuching. A mixed-up at the airport left some of the players to miss the morning flight and they had to wait for the afternoon flight via JHB. Nevertheless, a total of 15 players showed up for the first match, and what a match it was. MAS Veterans played a well organised tactic and managed to beat Kuching KSM two nil via RizalYob and Hasdi. Since some of the players were tired, the team had to rely on the solid rock defense and counter attacks.

On the second match, three new players (Rizal, Ismail, Rosli Putih) showed up and the team put up a better performance and beat MAS Kuching Veterans 3-0. RizalYob, RosliPutih and RosliJaafar scored for MAS Veterans. After the match, the team took the opportunity to shop around Kuching and it was highlighted that when they checked-in a total of 38 baggages for the flight home. That probably would provide their households with a good supplies of ikan terubuk masin, kek lapis and ketam nipah for the next six months...

Hats off the MAS Kuching for their kindness and they surely made our stay a pleasant one. We were very fortunate to have our KCH colleagues in making all the ground arrangements. Also to Victoria Arms and Cat City Club, where some of the players recuperated after the matches.
