VIDEO FORUM
FRIDAY JUNE 20 AT 6:30 P.M.

The first episode from the six-part series "The Astronomers" will be shown. In 'Where Is the Rest of the Universe?', a number of research teams explain why they believe that unseen matter exists in the universe. Dark matter, as they call it, must be holding galaxies together and keeping clusters of galaxies from flying apart. The video will be followed by a discussion.

International Meteor Conference
Valjevo, Yugoslavia.
September 25-28th 1997

Members of the Astronomical Society are invited to participate in this year's international meteor conference (IMC), this year being organised at the Petnica Science Centre, 40 miles south west of Belgrade in Yugoslavia , in a region of breathtaking natural beauty. Participation costs are a reasonable 140DM(around Lm35) for the four days. Or E mail the organiser Vladimir Lukic at f2lukic@frodita.rcub.bg.ac.yu . Anna & Godfrey Baldacchino participated at last year's IMO conference held in Apeldoorn.. the Netherlands. Godfrey presented an interim account of the first global survey of meteor watchers then in progress. It is expected that the forthcoming Leonid meteor storm , the 1997 Perseid shower and techniques for meteor observation on video will be the three main topics for discussion .There will of course be ample opportunity for socialising , relaxing and enjoying the lush countryside and woodlands



Beginner's Course

Twenty five members of the general public attended for the first lecture of the Society's annual Basic Course. Sandro Lanfranco introduced the course . If you are interested to attend you are still in time to do so .

· Tuesday, May 27 - Astronomical Instruments and Accessories by Prof. Frank Ventura.
