He married Elizabeth Lee (Bess) GODSEY in Jonesboro, Washington Co., TN, April 8, 1918.

3 i. Elizabeth Carolyn¹ VARNELL,LT.,WAVES, WWI was born in Little Rock, Arkansas November 26, 1919. She married Porter Keach JOHNSTON,LT., USNR, WWII in NATTAC, Norman, OK, March 2, 1945. Porter was born in Dallas, Texas June 21, 1921. Porter died January 26, 1994 in Dallas, Texas, at 72 years of age.

4 iii. Minnie Ellen VARNELL was born in Charleston, TN August 28, 1925. She married Thomas Callaway RANDOLPH in Bradley County, TN, July 26, 1944. Thomas was born in Cleveland, TN July 23, 1925.
