General description:
The EN1 is the main road from Maputo to the north. It ends near Gorongosa but is probably planned to continue to the EN7 near Quelimane. The EN2, 3 and 4 are roads from Maputo to the west, southwest and northwest (EN2 to Swaziland and EN4 to South Africa). EN6, 7 and 8 link the coast to the hinterland: EN6 runs from Beira to Zimbabwe, EN7 from Quelimane to Malawi and EN8 from Nacala to Malawi. Regional road numbers are assigned sequentially beginning in the south: 102-106 are main roads. Numbers 201-249 again increase to the north, then 251-260 as well, and finally 401-499. Numbers 501-549 increase to the south (only a few aree known). Among the numbers over 200, there is not really a class distinction. Important roads can have high numberrs, for example 548 is the main road from Bene to the Zambian border, part of the connection between Tete and Katete, which is the only road between Mozambique and Zambia. | ||||||
