General description: Odd numbers generally denote north-south routes, while even numbers denote east-west routes. Numbers increase in westbound and southbound direction respectively. The main north-south routes are 5, 15, 25, 35 and 65. The main east-west routes are 10, 20, 30, 40, 50 and 60. 80 is a less important road but an extension is probably planned. Zones (for 3-digit numbers only) are determined by the first digit of each number.
Road signs: Blue with white text. Road number shields green with yellow digits.

History: The current system was introduced around 1985, and many maps still show the old system, which only had 1- and 2-digit numbers. The system was similar and some numbers were the same. The main difference is that there was no class distinction between numbers ending in 0 or 5 and others. Furthermore it is remarkable that in the new system, less north-south numbers are left open for extension in the West Bank.
