General description: Numbers 1-12 radiate in clockwise order from Baghdad. Number 1 runs to Mosul in the north. Very often two or three roads have the same route on long sections. Higher numbers seem to be assigned sequentially, with no clear system.
Road signs: Road numbers appear on signs both in Arabic and in Indian numerals. For expressways, the German motorway shield is used on blue signs with white text. Other roads have green signs with white text, and rectangular road number shields.
