General description:
The National roads N1, N2, N3 and N4 are the main roads from Yaoundé (the N4 branchess off the N1 about 60 km north of Yaoundé). The N1 goes to the Chad border at N'Djamena. The N10 is a shortcut to the N1 between Yaoundé and Bertoua. Numbers with 2 digits are generally less important than lower numbers.
Provincial road numbers are assigned in a more or less haphazard way: the P1, P2 and P3 are in the north, P4 - 6 are in the southeast, most numbers between 10 and 20 are in the southwest but the P28 is in the far north. The highest known number is P34.
Departmental road numbers begin with D1 in the north, and increase to the south, but over about 25 they are assigned more or less arbitrarily. The highest known number is D94.
