General description:
Motorways: The A1 runs from La Habana to Guantanamo (it is not complete). Only the A1 and A4 are confirmed but apparently numbers increase in clockwise order.
National roads: There are three main east-west roads known as Carretera del Norte, Carretera Central and Carretera del Sur, abbreviated CN, CC and CS respectively. Other roads have 1- to 3-digit numbers. Apart from some clustering there is virtually no system. On average, 1- and 2-digit numbers seem to indicate slightly more important roads than 3-digit numbers, but there are very minor 2-digit numbers (e.g. 76). The highest known number is 641.
