Ezekiel means "God will strengthen"
painting by: Gustave Dore
Although the prophetic books offer no specific order, Ezekiel
is the third prophetic book in the Bible. Ezekiel was
the son of Buzi and one of the priests who, in 598 B.C.,
had been transported along with Joachim as prisoners
from Jerusalem. He settled, along with the other exiles,
in Tell-Abib near the Chobar in Babylon. In his fifth year
of captivity Ezekiel received his call to be a prophet
through a vision. He prophesied for at least twenty-two
years of his life.
