OPEN TO SUGGESTION   by Melody

Candice waited anxiously in the wine bar for Nicky to arrive, checking her watch every few minutes and nursing her red wine.  This whole blind date had been Martin's idea, he was convinced that they would get on like a house on fire.  It was ridiculous of her to be so nervous, she had met Nicky several times, albeit always fleetingly, and he seemed a nice enough chap, though somewhat awkward and ungainly.  She checked her watch again, it was still early.  Candice had decided to go into the town centre by bus, opting to get a taxi home, because she didn't have to worry about drinking too much to drive.  As it was she was far too nervous to drink, her stomach had butterflies and she was constantly fidgeting with her hair and hands, pulling at her fingers and scratching at her palms until they were red and sore.

When she caught sight of him walking towards the wine bar she wasn't sure how she really felt.  A part of her was relieved that he had turned up, but another part of her had been hoping that he wouldn't and she could go home, open a bottle of wine and enjoy some cheesy dvd or video.  If Martin had got this wrong it was going to be a very long, uncomfortable night.  Up until now they had only exchanged pleasantries and spent no longer than five minutes together.  Tonight they would have to contend with the wine bar and survive through the meal at the restaurant that they would be moving on to.

“Hi ya Candy,” said Nicky cheerily, “can I get you a drink?”
She stared down at her full glass, then back at Nicky.  “I'm fine thanks.”
“Oh so you are,” he blushed, “silly me.  I'll be back in a minute.”
“If you sit down they'll come over to you,” she supplied helpfully, pointing to the chair opposite her.
“Are you as nervous as me?” he asked, sitting down in a chair next to her.  “This is my first experience of a blind date, though Martin told me off saying that it wasn't a blind date because we knew one another.”
She chuckled.  “I know what you mean, oh, and I'm petrified by the way.”

After having the one glass of wine in the wine bar they went on to the restaurant, which was a five minute walk away.  They both relaxed quickly, the conversation flowing easily, with plenty of laughs thrown in as well.  When they finished their coffees and got ready to think about going for taxis home, they both hoped that the other would be agreeable to meeting up again.

“Look,” said Candice whilst they walked to the taxi rank, “why don't we share the same taxi?  It can drop me off and then take you home, obviously I'll pay for my own fair.”
“It does make sense but I don't want to to feel uncomfortable.”
“Why would I feel uncomfortable?” she asked.  “We've had a good night haven't we?”
Nicky grinned a broad toothy smile.  “Yeah we have.”
“So that's settled then,” she said, putting her left hand down and holding his hand.  “Let's go get that taxi home.”

Nicky had goosebumps when she held his hand, he had fallen for her in a big way and wanted to see her again.  She was intelligent and funny, easy going and pretty.  Her personality had won him over, she had put his nerves at ease very quickly and their time together had flown by.  It had been a long time since he had felt so comfortable with a woman, not just comfortable, he decided, he wanted her, his attraction to her was beyond anything he had known before.

“We never had a brandy to finish the night off with did we?” she asked in the back of the cab, still holding his hand.  “Do you fancy joining me for one?”
“What, at your house?”
Candice giggled.  “Yeah, why not?  Come on what do you say?”
Was this an invitation into her bed or purely for a glass of brandy and nothing more?  He fervently hoped that it was the former; that would be the perfect end to the night as far as he was concerned.  “That does sound tempting,” he said thoughtfully.
“So, will you?”
“It will be hard getting another taxi, the clubs will be kicking out in an hour or so.”
“Don't worry about that,” she said coyly.  “You can stay over unless you have to be back for anything.”
Am I getting this wrong or is she coming on to me?  Sleeping on the sofa will be ok though, if it means that I get to spend more time with her, Nicky mused to himself.  “Sure, having a brandy sounds good.  Just take us to the first address please,” said Nicky to the driver, oblivious to the knowing grin that the driver was giving the pair of them.

Candice gave Nicky a large glass of brandy, it was definitely a treble shot, and sat down beside him on the sofa.  “Here's to what has been a very pleasant evening,” she said merrily, raising her glass in a toast.
Nicky chinked her glass.  “Yeah it has been,” he smiled nervously then drank a rather large gulp of the brandy, the liquid burning the back of his throat initially, then settling to a gentle warmth.  “Hmm, this is nice.”
“Hence why I poured large ones,” she giggled coquettishly.  “This stuff goes down really well, and a single measure is never enough.”

“I'd better go careful, I'm not used to spirits.”
“One isn't going to hurt, even if it is a large one.”  She sidled seductively against him and rested her head on his shoulder, her free hand stroking his knee.  “And its not like you're going anywhere is it?” she batted her eyelashes provocatively at him.
“I guess not,” Nick replied, nervously kissing the top of her head.  “This is a nice place you have here.”
“Thanks,” she smiled and tilted her head up.

Nicky moaned in the back of his throat when her soft warm lips touched his, closed his eyes and reciprocated the kiss, his tongue gliding easily into her waiting and welcoming mouth.  He gazed at her in surprise and disappointment when she withdrew from the kiss and embrace.
“We'll spill our drinks,” she said simply, putting her brandy glass down on the smoked glass coffee table before them, Nicky quickly following with his.  “I don't make a habit of this.”
At that precise moment Nicky couldn't really care less whether she did or did not, all he knew was that this was  what he'd been anticipating and hoping for.  “We don't have to if you'd rather not; I can get a cab and go home.”

“I'm not regretting this,” she said, her fingers playing in his soft chestnut hair.  “I'm rather taken aback at how well tonight has gone and how much I feel drawn to you.”
“The same goes for me,” Nicky assured her.  “I haven't done this many times and it is the first time in I don't know how long, it feels right though, being with you.”
Candice smiled warmly to him.  “Shall we take these drinks upstairs?”
Without answering her, Nicky got to his feet, pulled her closely against his body, wrapping his arms around her, and gave her a deep passionate kiss that left them both gasping when it was over. “Why don't you show me the way?”
