A CONSIDERATE BOSS by Melody Sacha unlocked the door shaking the rain from her umbrella before entering the house. She had been cleaning for Sean for almost a year now. For the most part she loved it, he was very kind to her, never assuming she would do jobs not contained in their job agreement. If she had to stay late he would drive her home or arrange a taxi for her. She paused before taking off her raincoat. Her red hair was clinging to her head; droplets of rain dripping irritatingly into her eyes, making them sting. Sacha wondered why she had bothered with the umbrella; it had obviously not protected her particularly well. Her raincoat was also inordinately wet, weighing four or five times what it had when dry, or was that her mind assuming things because she was so wet? When she tried tugging the offending item off she had her answer; she was soaked through to the white t-shirt she was wearing, leaving nothing to the imagination. Her jeans were leaden on her legs. “Sacha?” She flinched on hearing her name. What she really needed was a change of clothes. “Sacha?” The door from the lounge opened, Sean standing, watching her. “I got a bit wet,” she shrugged, her teeth chattering with the cold she was feeling. “Go upstairs, have a hot shower then put my towelling robe on, it’s on the back of the door. Leave me your things and I’ll put them in the dryer. Go on.” “My underwear is soaked too,” she sighed apologetically. Sean flashed her a tender smile. “I can see that. Now go and get a shower before I bundle you into it myself!” Laughing madly Sacha went upstairs to his en-suite. She stood for an age under the jets of steaming water. The shower was the most powerful one she had used or known. She washed her hair with his expensive shampoo then let the conditioner work for five minutes before rinsing it. Her hair had never felt so soft. As she studied her reflection in the mirror she was happily surprised that it hadn’t become unruly as it usually did. Instead it formed beautiful, natural buoyant, shiny curls. “Sit down and I’ll make you a hot coffee. Your clothes should be ready in fifteen minutes or so.” Sacha was so snug and warm inside his robe that she didn’t really want to put her jeans on again, although it was impractical for her to clean as she was presently attired. “I think I’ll get you one of those robes for your birthday,” said Sean putting the piping hot mug of coffee in front of her. “It suits you.” “It’s so thick and soft. I’ve never known anything quite so plush,” she smiled softly. “There’s no need for a present though.” “Well I’d like to buy you one.” With her clothes dried Sacha changed, returning to the kitchen to finish her coffee, apologising for being such a slow drinker. “Stop worrying. When was the last time that you actually stopped work to have a drink or a sandwich? You don’t, you keep working. The house is ok so I think that today you should take it easy. I need to sort out my dvd’s, books and cd’s. You can help me with that.” “But today I should be…” He cut her off before she could finish. “I’m your boss and so you will listen to me. We’ll do the organising then at lunchtime I’m taking you to this nice little Bistro that I know. For once you can sit down and eat.” “But, but, but…” Sean gave her a stern glare. “Those are your instructions. Do I have to talk to you about insubordination?” His beautiful smile made her melt. “No,” she replied softly, amazed at what his smile was doing to her. “Do you need to go home today or can you stay back a few hours?” enquired Sean, walking alongside her back to his car, having enjoyed a nice lunch. “I have no plans.” “Good,” he grinned opening the car door for her. “Let’s go to the supermarket, get some nice food and wine. Tonight I will cook for you.” He noticed that Sacha was about to open her mouth in protest. “No arguing!” “Oh Lord, I’m so full!” exclaimed Sacha opening the top button of her jeans. “Glad that you enjoyed it.” “I had no idea that you were such a good cook.” Sacha took a sip of her wine then followed Sean through to the lounge. Sean plumped up the cushions on the sofa. “There you go madam,” he grinned. “Sit down and relax.” “I’ll go when I’ve finished this,” she brandished her wineglass at him. “Must you? You can stay over, I don’t mind.” “Much as I appreciate the offer I had better not.” “Why?” “It’s not a good idea. People will talk.” “Ok I understand but I’d like to think that one night you’ll feel comfortable enough to stay over. We do get on well after all.” Sacha smiled, if anything they got along a little too well, it was not unusual for them to flirt. Her feelings towards him were more than an employee ought to have towards her employer. That was the downside of working for him. The more she had grown to know him, the more her desire for him increased. It was nearing the point were she was afraid of telling him. To stop that from happening she had begun applying for other jobs, thinking that it would put some much-needed distance between them. “Please have some more wine and stay,” Sean suggested with big doe eyes. “I’m sure that my neighbours haven’t noticed that you’re still here. If they have, well it’s not against the law to have friends stay over is it? Especially one as beautiful as you.” Sacha blushed, staring down at her feet, trying to ignore the fact that Sean was now sat so close that he was touching her. “Friend?” she stammered. “For now yes,” Sean answered softly, delicately brushing a loose tendril of hair away from her face. “Though I’d like to think that one day you will be a great deal more Sacha.” “Oh but…” “You are so adorable when you’re confused,” he tittered. “Forget that I’m your boss, be honest with me. Am I barking up the wrong tree or do you like me?” Sacha nodded. “Is that why you have applied for other jobs?” he asked, his fingers playing the soft hair at the base of her neck. “I received two requests for references before you arrived this morning. Then again, maybe you’re dissatisfied here.” “No,” she answered forthrightly. “I love it here, it’s just, well, a little awkward.” “Why? Don’t be shy now.” Sacha put her glass down and turned to face him. “Because of my feelings for you.” Sean smiled, cupped her face in both his hands then kissed her sweetly on her quivering lips. “I don’t want you to feel awkward Sacha but I would like to take you out. “Why don’t we try it? If it goes well I’ll get another housekeeper. If it doesn’t, providing you don’t mind, we can revert back to the way things are now.” She stared at him uncertainly. “Perhaps it would be best for me to get another job before anything happens.” “Please don’t make me wait any longer, not when I have this deep yearning inside to do this.” Sacha sighed when his soft warm lips pressed against hers, his hands holding her tenderly to him. He flicked his tongue against her lips making her whimper when she let it slide in. “Hey sleepy, wake up.” Sacha stretched and blinked, her eyes adjusting to the bright sunlight streaming in through the curtains. “Hmm,” she moaned with a smile. “Come on gorgeous, I made you breakfast in bed,” quipped Sean sliding next to her beneath the duvet, kissing her exposed neck lightly. “What time is it?” Sacha yawned. “Nearly 10 o’clock.” He slipped a hand down to caress her stomach. “Oh no! I’m behind schedule. You should’ve woken me earlier, especially after giving me a lazy day yesterday.” “Hold on!” laughed Sean pulling her back into bed. “You are spending the day with me and That’s an order!” Sacha couldn’t help but smile at him. “Well how can I disobey my boss?” “How indeed?” Sean sniggered, throwing the duvet over their heads.
