SOONER OR LATER   by Janey                                 <<< Part 5

PART 6

The following night Dina had to call Nicky to cancel and rearrange it for the next night instead, but she did invite Nicky to call her back at the office when he was going to bed so that she could say goodnight to him and reluctantly he agreed.  The trouble had been that she’d had a couple of meetings that had run way over time, she had contracts to finalise and also lots of calls to make, and Graham had hardly done any of the jobs he was supposed to when he stood in for her so that she could woo Nicky.

10.30 p.m. and the telephone on Dina’s desk rang, she was surprised; the only person who would call was Nicky and he always liked to watch ‘Newsnight’ before retiring – the programme would only just be starting.
“Let me up,” he said cheerfully.  “I’ve forgotten the bloody alarm code!”
She shook her head, smirked and pressed the buzzer; a few minutes later and a wildly grinning Nicky was entering her office.
“Why on earth are you here?” she tittered as he wrapped his long, strong arms around her.
“To stop you from working too hard.”  His impatient lips found hers and urgently they probed each other’s mouths, their moans being partially stifled in the kiss.  Quick as a flash, Nicky had raised her skirt to her hips, ripped off her knickers, torn open her bra and was shagging her over the office desk, scattering papers and files all over the floor.

With clothes askew they slunk to the floor and Nicky cradled Dina tightly to his body as he stroked her hair and whispered soothing words to her.
“You did say you wanted to do it on your desk,” Nicky sniggered surveying the chaotic scene that surrounded them.
“Well that’s one desk out of the way,” she teased.  “That leaves the one I’ll be getting at Hall or Nothing and the one I have at home in my office then.”
“Don’t forget that table over there!  I don’t think we should leave that out of the equation.”
“You are incorrigible Nick Jones!  And that’s another pair of knickers you owe me.”
“Oh shush!”  Once more he captured her in a kiss and her protest was lost in his mouth.

Dina left Nicky in her bed when she left for the office the following morning.  In truth she was jealous, she was so tired she could have done to spend the morning in bed too, but then how much sleep would she actually manage to get?   Just before lunchtime she had a phone call; it was Nicky.  He had just had a shower and was hoping to meet her for lunch.

Unbeknownst to Dina, Graham was actually in that morning and he overheard her mentioning Nicky’s name as he walked by, so decided to stop and listen to Dina’s part of the conversation.
“I’m not surprised, you didn’t get much sleep last night Nick Jones!  How about if we meet at that coffee bar you like say at about 1.30? Ok, see you then, bye love.  Yeah, I love you too.”

Graham smirked and went into his office and closed the door, unfortunately for him he had forgotten to lock it, and Dina walked in with a bundle of papers for his perusal as she was on her way out of the building later, to meet Nicky.
“Don’t you knock?” he bellowed, white powder stuck to his nostrils.  He was flustered and unable to hide the two lines of what Dina assumed was cocaine.  One of the lines was only a couple of centimetre’s long, the other about 2 ½ inches.
“You said you weren’t in today and I just wanted to leave these for you.”  Dina tried to keep her voice even, desperately hoping that she wouldn’t panic him.  “Only I’m off to lunch with Nicky Wire and I’m not sure how long I’ll be.”

The mention of her meeting Nicky seemed to calm him a little, and he casually stood up and walked towards her.  “I heard you on the phone with him, you said you love him.  Do you or is that just a ploy to get him to sign?”
His rancid breath flowed straight up her nostrils and she had a hard job to keep smiling and stop from retching over him. “What do you think?” she winked mischievously, silently praying that he would move away from her, he was even more obnoxious than usual.
“Good girl, I knew you could do it if you put your mind to it,” he drooled staring down at her cleavage with the dirtiest, smuggest smile Dina had ever seen. “When did your secretary change?”
“Oh she and Sara have agreed to swap for a week or so, just to experience the difference in jobs and pressure, seems to be going ok so far and they know that they can be made to go back again if it doesn’t work out.”

“So when are you and I going to get together then Dina huh?” he stroked his stubby fingers down her cheeks and then down over the exposed flesh of her breasts.  “I don’t see why Wire should have all the fun do you?”
“Erm, well I er… don’t have time for anything else really.”  Dina desperately tried moving to the door but graham blocked her path.
“Now that’s no way to behave is it? I don’t think you understand me,” he winked knocking her hands away when she tried to stop him opening her blouse.  “We can always have fun here in my office Dina.”
She was now backed into a corner and he had her hands pinned above her head, his legs between hers so she couldn’t even knee him in the groin.  “I don’t think so.”
“Don’t be so tetchy! You will do as I say do you hear me or you will be out of a job.”
Dina hoped that someone who was monitoring the office would send help soon; she was scared.  “Don’t you dare lay a finger on me!” she shouted, aware that Moira, his secretary and Sara were both out to lunch, and it was unlikely that any of the others would be near enough to hear her.  She needed to alert the monitors of the equipment.
“I’ll do what the hell I like you two bit whore!”

WHACK!

The force of his hand sent Dina crashing to the floor, catching her right eyebrow on the corner of the coffee table.
“You women you’re all the bloody same!  Bitch!”  Again his hand came down on her, repeatedly striking her over her body, and just for good measure, he viciously kicked her several times.

She hadn’t heard the door open or anyone enter the office but suddenly Dina was aware of someone striding across the carpet at a pace, she then heard Graham sniggering and then yelping and a familiar voice:
“You bastard!  Get a kick out of beating women do you?  Well no one hits the woman I love and gets away with it!”
Nicky!  It was her Nicky and he was protecting her and rescuing her.

WHACK!

Nicky hit him.

Graham laughed maniacally, like a man possessed and spat at Nicky: “You fool!  She doesn’t love you; she’s sleeping with you to get you to sign a bloody contract!”
Nicky was now cradling Dina in his arms and wiping some of the blood away from her face with a tissue from his pocket.  “Dina and I were a couple before that you oaf!  She would never do anything so base to get someone to sign, she has too much integrity.”

Dina sobbed in Nicky’s arms when the police finally arrived; relieved it was all almost over.  They all went to the police station to make statements and Dina was checked over by the FME.  Thankfully her injuries were only minor, a black eye, a cut across her right eyebrow, a slight cut to her bottom lips and various bruises over her body.  She would be sore for a few days but other than that fine.

Martin and Terri met them at the station.  Terri collected Dina’s car keys and drove the car back to her home for her.  When she arrived at Dina’s Martin was still there.
“Nicky is insisting she stays with him,” shrugged Martin.  “You’d think she needs round the clock nursing care the way he’s going.”
“Oh leave him alone!  She’s been attacked and he’s hurting, personally I think it’s sweet,” said Terri.  “He’ll be thinking about what could have happened if he hadn’t decided to surprise her there.”
“Yeah, it could have been even worse and she looks bad enough as it is.”

“Nicky I would be perfectly alright here on my own you know,” she said putting some more items into a small valise.
“I know that but I want you to indulge me ok?  I want to spoil you, and Clara will get used to hearing your name mentioned with mine and seeing you with me as well, but she’ll be fine.  She asked why you didn’t stay over.”
“Well she wouldn’t have meant it like that.”
“She did. Honestly!  Don’t stare at me that way, Clara is very bright and she’s used to Rachel’s friend Andy staying over.”
“Oh,” Dina whittered simply, sitting down alongside Nicky on the bed. “This is your round about way of telling me that Clara is due to stay over soon isn’t it? You don’t think I’ll scare her?”
“Yeah it is and no you won’t!  I’ll explain to her that you’re poorly but that you’ll be ok.  You just need to worry about her poking and prodding you out of curiosity.”

Nicky did his best Florence Nightingale impression, insisting that she stay on the sofa covered by a quilt watching some of her favourite dvd’s.  When she said she fancied a bath he quickly ran up the stairs and started to fill the tub for her, adding some luxurious bubble bath and ensuring the bath was filled with lots and lots of soft foamy bubbles for her.

Dina flinched in pain as Nicky carefully helped her undress; she was covered in bruises and obviously finding any movement painful.  Nicky was angry, frustrated, upset and concerned.  He found it so distressing seeing her in so much agony and discomfort and try as he might, eventually he couldn’t stop his tears from falling.
“Oh Nicky honey,” Dina sighed sadly, wrapping her arms around him and grimacing through the pain that ripped through her.  “It’s over, he can’t hurt us now.”
“But look at what he’s done to you.”  Nicky sniffled and wiped his tears away.  “I can’t touch you without hurting you and right now all I want to do is hold you and never let you go.”
“Then hold me.  Yes it stings a little but compared to how safe and wanted I feel in your arms, it’s merely a bit of discomfort and nothing more.”

“You are some woman, you know?” he said with a slight smile appearing on his lips.
“And you are some kinda man; my hero!”
“I won’t be much of a hero if the police prosecute me for assault.”
“If they have any sense they won’t; you were helping me.”
“Getting him off you was helping, the punch was a step too far apparently,” he moaned with a furrowed brow.
“Nick, I dread to think what could have happened if you hadn’t changed plans and stopped by at the office.  It took ages for the police to get there; talk about negligent.”
“Martin has solicitors going through all that with them apparently.  He reckons that if they prosecute me he’s going to sue them for dereliction of duty or some such bloody thing.”
“And he’d win; hands down.”

Very gently Nicky eased her into the soothing water and bubbles, sitting on the side of the bath chatting with her for a while as Dina closed her eyes and relaxed.  He then indulged her by washing her hair and soaping her all over with a sponge.  When she was done, he wrapped her in a huge bath towel and had her sit on his bed whilst he cleaned the bath.  He then slowly and as delicately and gently as he could moisturised her body with cocoa butter body cream and then dressed her in some practical cotton pyjamas that she had packed.

The next couple of days were like that pretty much all of the time; Nicky insisting on doing as much for her as he could, and Dina was surprised at just how much she enjoyed being pampered.  It was also nice to have someone to prepare a meal with.  Even chopping onions became fun as they teased one other wickedly over their streaming eyes.

“I’ll get that,” smiled Nicky on hearing the phone ring, drying his hands and then giving Dina a peck on the cheek.  “Hello…yeah…right…ok…erm yeah…thanks…bye.”
“Well?” asked Dina, curiosity getting the better of her.  “Who was it?”
“Martin.  Graham was in court this afternoon and has pleaded guilty to several different counts, and the police will not be prosecuting me.  So you won’t have to go to court and they say he’ll get between 12 to 20 years when he gets sentenced next week.”
“Oh Nicky that’s wonderful!” exclaimed Dina wrapping her arms around Nicky’s waist. “I’m so pleased.”
“They’re still investigating all the assault claims so that’s not included.”  Nicky kissed her and was surprised that she was responding to him.

During the time she had stayed with Nicky they had kissed and cuddled a bit nothing more, Nicky all too aware of the pain and discomfort that Dina was enduring and not wanting to add to it.  Dina found it endearing that he was so considerate and sweet, showing his affection for her in a myriad of other ways.  Tonight though she wanted something more; she’d waited long enough.

“Oh Dina,” panted Nicky, “are you sure?  I don’t wanna…”
“You won’t and I’m sure,” she murmured softly.  “Go get the quilt from the bed, oh and a blanket or something, I fancy cuddling up in front of the fire.”
“You open a bottle of wine and I’ll set everything up,” he smirked.  “Don’t you go in there until I shout for you!”

Dina nodded her agreement and stayed out until Nicky said he was ready.  When she entered she beamed the biggest, brightest smile of her life.  Nicky had put loads of candles all around the room and potpourri in several dishes on the side of the hearth.  He had made a bed in front of the glowing embers, and brought down some towels and aromatherapy oils; “I thought you might like a gentle massage,” he whispered, holding her in his arms.
“You think of everything,” she sighed.  “Is there any wonder that I love so much?”

She pressed her lips against his and whimpered as his tongue slipped into her mouth and he gently guided her down onto the floor in front of the softly flickering flames. Slowly but determinedly Nicky removed their clothes, paused and gazed down at her with a wondrous smile over his lips.
“What?” she asked, intrigued by his manner.
“Just thinking about how wonderfully decadent we’re being,” he smirked stroking his thumbs over her cheeks lightly.  “It’s early evening and we’re bedding down for the night; I could get used to this.”
“I know what to do for your birthday then,” she teased.  “I wonder how the barbecue went at Martin’s.”
“Only he could organise one for bloody January!  He was having a huge marquee or gazebo thingy as well I’ll have to ask Terri how it went.”

“Joking aside, what do you want for your birthday?”
“The two of us going away somewhere together would be good.”
“It’s not very personal though,” Dina muttered.  “You sure that’s what you want?”
Nicky nodded: “Absolutely but the chances of us managing to book anywhere now are slim, so we can do it next month or whenever.  As long as I get to go away with you I’ll be happy."
“I’m sure I can organise something,” Dina winked to him, pulling his head down to hers for a deep sensual kiss.

Nicky’s Birthday

Whilst Nicky took Clara back home after she had spent the day with them, Dina rushed upstairs and packed a suitcase with Nicky’s clothes.  She also called Terri and let her know that it was ok for her to come round; Terri had secretly been to Dina’s home without letting Nicky know, and packed a suitcase for her.  Now Nicky was out of the house she could drop it off, and the surprise was under way.

Nicky arrived back, shocked that she was waiting for him in her coat and boots. “I fancy a drive to clear the cobwebs,” she explained. “Come on, let’s go.”

“Ok.  We’ve been driving for an hour and you have such a smirk on your face.  What are you playing at?”
“We are going to a hotel for two whole weeks of fun and frivolity.  Happy birthday sweetheart.”
Nicky gaped open mouthed at her: “Are you serious?” he sang shrilly. “How and when did you manage this?”
“The Internet is a wonderful thing, and I enlisted the help of Rachel, Terri and Martin in this little act of subterfuge, oh and Patrick recommended the hotel so if you don’t like it, blame him.”
“You are something else you know that?”
Dina blushed, patted his knee briefly and carried on driving.

The hotel in Bath was beautiful, and their room took Nicky’s breath away.  During the days they went for walks and toured the countryside and in the evening they used the spa and swimming pool, or stayed in their room watching dvd’s, reading or just talking, and of course, they made love; a lot.
They bought presents for everyone too, Dina happy that Nicky took a shine to a watch in one of the jewellers they stopped at, bought it for him as a birthday present and he was over the moon.

All too soon they were back home; back at work and the break seemed a long long time ago.  Back now at Hall or Nothing, Dina had a full time secretary rather than the part time one she had previously, and she was over the moon; Martin had offered Carla the job and she had said yes straight away.  Things were going well.

“Dina honey.”
“Nicky sweetheart, what can I do for you?  You want me to get some shopping in for you when I finish?” she asked into the phone.
“No, I er, I wanted to let you know that Clara will be staying for a couple of days, Rachel’s pretty poorly with flu.”
“Oh right.  I’ll stop off home and get my sensible pyjamas then,” she giggled.
“You sure you don’t mind? I mean I know she knows about Andy staying with Rachel, and she knows about us, but it will be the first time we’ve all been together overnight.  It’s actually going to make it real for her.”
“Of course I don’t baby.  I want to make this as gentle and comfortable for Clara as possible.  How will she be if she wants to join you in the night for a cuddle and I’m with you?”
“I’ll have a chat with her when I bring her home, nothing heavy, just explain that you’re staying with me and answer any questions she might have.”
“Any problems call me and I’ll see if I can get off early.”

Clara insisted on Dina taking her to bed and reading her a story, and Dina had been thrilled to.
“Daddy loves you,” Clara said simply as she snuggled under the duvet and kissed Dina. “I love you too.”
Dina fought back the tears.  “I love you and your daddy too Clara, a whole lot.  Nighty night beautiful.” Dina gave her a big hug and kissed her cheeks.  “Sleep well.”
“Nighty Dina.”

Dina was still wiping the tears from her eyes as she joined Nicky in the lounge.
“What’s up honey?” asked Nick, standing up and cuddling her.
“Nothing; she said she loves me.”
“You softy.”  His soft lips sought out hers and they kissed hungrily for some minutes until Nick sighed and broke the contact.  “Best not get too carried away down here.”
“Nothing to stop us from having an early night once princess is asleep though.”
“How right you are!”

Clara stayed with Nicky for almost two weeks, seeing Rachel most days for an hour to see that mummy was ok and getting better, and also spending a couple of nights with Nicky at Dina’s, which she seemed to enjoy immensely.  She certainly never seemed to have any problem about Nicky and Dina being together.  Dina genuinely felt sad when they took Clara back home again; it would be strange not having her around, and driving back to her home she was really weepy.

“What’s up Dina?” asked Nicky with concern.
“It’s going to be strange not having her around.  I felt like we were a real family sometimes.”
“Well we kind of are a family now.  Of course we’d be even more like one if we stopped this flitting between two bloody homes.”
“Are you asking me to move in with you Nicholas?”
He laughed raucously. “Don’t call me that!  Reminds me of when I was a kid and getting told off; mum and dad always bloody called me Nicholas then.  But yes, let’s move in together, my house, yours or we buy one together I don’t mind, as long as you say yes.”
“Let me think about it!”
“You tease!”

They talked about it when they got back to Nicky’s and decided to move in to his home as it was bigger and could accommodate her office without any problem.
“What do you want for lunch honey?”
“Nothing for me thanks Nick.”
“I’m getting worried about you,” he sighed stroking her back.  “You’ve been off your food the last couple of days.”
“I think I’ve just picked a bug up.  I’ll be fine, don’t worry.”
“Well I’m going to pop to the shops.  Anything I can get you while I’m there?”
“No thanks, I’m ok for everything.”

Nicky arrived back a couple of hours later and found Dina looking very flushed, in the study writing out a report on a group she had recently been to see after hearing a demo they had sent her.
“What’s up sweetheart?” he asked.  “Been a bit sick?”
“Yeah,” she asked bemused at how he knew.
He knelt down in front of her and put his gloved hands around hers.  “I’ve been around pregnant women before you know.  I’ve bought you a test just so we can find out for sure.”
“Just because I’m off my food you think I’m pregnant?”
“No, I think you’re pregnant because of that but also because your breasts, especially your nipples are very sensitive when we make love, you haven’t had a period since we started seeing each other and I’ve caught the way you look at your body in the mirror; you suspect.”  She nodded lamely in agreement.  “Right go do the test.  Run water if you have to, but lets do this,” he smiled.
“And erm, if I am?”
“I’ll be over the moon!”

With a quivering smile Dina took the box he handed her and went to the bathroom.  Nervously Nicky hung his coat up and put the rest of the shopping away.  Every few seconds he checked his watch; the wait was driving him insane.

She came out ten minutes later with a dead pan face that Nicky couldn’t read, and handed him the test.  He gazed at her smiled and nodded; she nodded in return.
“I love you Dina!” he beamed, picking her up in his arms and holding her above him before letting her slide gently to the floor.  “How do you feel?”
“Nervous, excited, scared, happy.  Oh Nicky I’m thrilled even if it is so soon. It feels right, I’m more worried about Clara’s reaction.”
“We have a while to get her used to having a little brother or sister.  This is just the best news.”
“You know, I think I could do to rest for a while,” she winked.
“Perhaps then, I could carry you and baby Jones to bed?”
“That would be good.”
“Say no more!”

With a flourish and a whoop of delight, Nicky picked her up and began carrying her to their bedroom, kissing her with almost every step he took.

THE END.
