OH MY by Janey Sarah was in the centre of the hall with Martin as the guys ran through their sound check for the gig a few hours later at the stadium. They sounded good and had managed to not mess anything up. Even Nicky when he’d ran through the two songs that he would be doing had somehow managed to play the guitar as well as ‘sing.’ Sarah had been their P.A. for 14 months now and this was the first tour that she had been involved with. “They sound good don’t they?” She says to Martin. “Yes they do. Nicky too, thankfully.” He notices the way she looks at him and so adds, “he’s notoriously bad at doing vocals and playing guitar at the same time. In Cuba James had to ‘fill’ for him quite a lot.” She nods to acknowledge what he’s said and they both start to walk to the dressing rooms as the band have finished the check. Sarah had earlier made sure that they had everything they required food, drink and entertainment wise, but still checked again to make sure that they were happy. She also checked that they had a selection of things to wear on stage, and that they were all pressed and ready. “Sarah,” calls James. “Where’s that red shirt I liked the look of?” “I think you may find that Sean has claimed it!” she giggles. “You can sort that one on your own.” “Just ‘cos he’s my cousin,” he smirks, “he thinks he doesn’t need to ask. Oh, I think you’re wanted!” Sarah looks at him questioningly, “Pardon?” “I see 6ft 4in of Wire striding this way with ‘THAT’ glint in his eyes,” James whispers to her. “I think he’s ready for some ‘personal attention’!” She shakes her head at him, looking a little lost. “If you two think that you’ve managed to keep your relationship a secret, think again. Neither of you are particularly quiet when you’re screwing.” “Oh, my!” Suddenly her face flushes beetroot red. “How long have you known?” Luckily Nicky has got sidetracked by Mitch, so Sarah has a chance to try to compose herself. “Well, tell me if I get this wrong, but I think that you two fancied each other like mad for several months before you started this job. Hell you used to flirt enough!” he giggles again. “But I think it was when you’d been with us about a month or so. It was the way you both looked at each other when you thought that no one was watching, and you stopped with the ‘obvious’ flirting. Now to me, the only reason you would do that would be to cover up the way you feel about each other.” “Does Rachel know, or suspect?” “If she does she hasn’t said anything. Why? Developing a conscience?” Sarah doesn’t get a chance to answer as Nicky sidles up alongside her with that huge grin spread over his face. “Sorry to take her from you James, but I need this young lady to help me,” and he winks at her, making her blush again. “Oh I’m SURE you do Wire!” Says James. “Need to get rid of some ‘tension’ I suppose.” “What’s that supposed to mean?” asks Nicky as he unthinkingly puts an arm around Sarah’s shoulders and hugs her slight, 5ft 5in frame to him. “I think THAT,” gestures James, “says it all. You may have thought you were being discreet Nick, but you weren’t. Especially when you were both in bed together. Hotel walls aren’t particularly thick you know!” Nicky sighs deeply and runs some fingers through his hair. “Who else knows James?” “Sean, Nick, Mitch, Martin and Terri. Don’t know if anyone else kinda like, suspects though.” “Well at least we can stop hiding from you lot.” “You mean you’re not going to end this?” says James in amazement. Sarah gazes up into Nicks blue eyes and he smiles at her. “No I’m not. Not unless Sarah wants too.” “Nick this is fucking madness! You have a beautiful wife and child at home. What are you playing at?” “I’m not playing James!” he raises his voice and lots of the crew start to look at them. “I’ve told Rachel. Several months ago in fact.” “What!” James and Sarah cry in unison. Nicky takes Sarah in his arms and kisses her warmly. “I love you Sarah. It was killing me hiding it and being so deceitful to Rachel. I just thought she had the right to know.” “But I saw her a few weeks ago and she never acted any differently to me.” “She won’t. She’s made it clear that she thinks it’s a fling, and has told me to get you out of my system even though I’ve warned her that I won’t,” says Nick, “and don’t you get all moralistic on us Bradders! You’ve known about this but not said anything. Not even indirectly.” “That doesn’t mean that I endorse it Nick. Hell we all thought it would fizzle out.” “Please you two, don’t fight.” Just as Sarah finishes speaking Martin joins them. “So I guess this relationship is now out in the open,” he says calmly, “Which means we can all carry on as before can’t we?” “Martin!” shrieks James. “Look James, like it or not this is nothing to do with us. This is for Nicky, Sarah and Rachel ok? Now we’ve all said and done nothing for this long so what’s changed?” “Nothing,” James concedes grudgingly. “Exactly.” Martin then looks at Nicky and Sarah, “go on you two. Time for you to go do whatever you were going to do.” Quickly they went to Nicky’s dressing room with their arms around each other. Janey's stories |
