LONG JOURNEY by Janey (Sequel for Relationships and What's behind) PART 1 Jen and Richey had less than a week to go before their wedding, and Nicky continued to try to work out who was the most nervous. James and Sean were both to be ushers, and Nicky had the honour of being best man. He had already written his speech, and judging from James’ reaction when he had read through it for him, it should provide plenty of laughs and giggles, which is what Nicky was aiming for. Jen and Richey were getting married a year to the day after they had became engaged. It hadn’t been an easy relationship; Richey had had to overcome a lot of demons, but with love, understanding and affection from Jen, he had done that. At one time the relationships between all four Manics was fragile. Richey’s behaviour towards Sean had been the catalyst, but they had all accepted a portion of the blame, and their friendships were deep and solid once more. James and Nicky had cemented their own union by exchanging wedding vows in Copenhagen eight months ago, attended by all of their friends and family. It had been a long journey for them, but it was oh so worth it and the fans had accepted them without problem. Sean was in a relationship with Catherine, Hailey’s sister, and that was all thanks to James. Initially he had been against her, but on seeing how his cousin pined without her, he actively ensured that they did get together and they were now a wonderfully happy couple that recently found out that they were to become parents, and everyone was incredibly chuffed for them both. It really was a match made in heaven. Jen groaned, still in bed trying to recover from the hen night that Terri had organised for her the night before. “I love it!” laughed Richey enthusiastically, setting the strong black coffee down beside her on the bedside cabinet. “I have never seen you with a hangover and it’s hilarious, you look green.” “I feel green,” she grunted hoarsely, her voice croaking from far too many cigarettes. “For someone who rarely smokes, usually only when stressed, you must have had a whole lot last night ‘cos your voice is really rough.” “Oh shut up,” she whined. “I don’t even remember why I had one.” “Now, now. Remember what you always say to me; ‘it’s self inflicted so don’t expect any sympathy Red,’ well ditto!” He sat on the edge of their bed and stroked her hair affectionately, kissing her forehead tenderly and lightly. “I shall remind you of that tomorrow morning when you’re the one suffering after your stag night!” “Ah well; at least we’ll both know we’ll be sober when we get married,” Richey giggled, his brown eyes twinkling with fun. “I’d hate to think you’d have to be pissed to say ‘I do’.” “I don’t need to be pissed to do anything when it comes to you Rich, and, you know that, even Sherry didn’t lecture me. In fact she was one of the main protagonists; hell but we had a fun night.” Jen sat up a little, took a sip of coffee and winked cheekily at Richey. “You had better not have any strippers though; if Nicky has organised some, I won’t be very pleased.” “What’s wrong with them? It’s my stag night and its tradition.” “Erm, this is Nicky we’re talking about. Knowing him he’ll get male strippers so that he can make James jealous; you know what a tease he is!” she beamed. “But if he did get female strippers… would you really object?” Gently he pulled the duvet back, and slid his naked body onto the warm sheets, and snuggled up to her. “Honestly? Nah it would be fine. It’s your stag night so have fun – that’s the whole point after all; that is so long as it doesn’t change your mind about the wedding.” “For someone with a hangover you are remarkably chipper,” he teased, his soft plump lips pulling on hers. “Well my head hurts a bit, but actually I don’t feel that bad, I mean I’m tired and my throat is as sore as I don’t know what, so I guess I got off lightly.” “And you were trying to let me think that you were really suffering. Was that a test to see if I would take care of you?” Richey nibbled at her earlobe and his fingertips teased her stomach with their very light touches. “Nah, I knew that you’d take care of me because you always do.” “You’re going to make me blush if you’re not careful.” “Richey Edwards blushing; that’s a first.” “No it isn’t. If you remember I blushed when you accepted my proposal, then when I told my parents and Rachel. Not to mention when I told the guys! I bet I’ll blush next Thursday too.” “What’s to blush about?” “Just declaring my love for you in front of so many people. I’ll be so proud to have you as my wife, but I am petrified that I’ll make a hash of it and stumble over my words or something.” “Oh honey, I have every faith in you.” “You’ll be beautiful and stunning I bet, because you always are.” Jen blushed and hugged him. “I hope so. I want you to be so proud of me when you see me and don’t have second thoughts about making me ‘Mrs Edwards’.” “Are you sure YOU won’t have second thoughts?” “Not a chance; I’ve never been more sure about anything in my life.” “Me neither; I love you so much.” “Hmm, you are such a romantic Richey.” “Thanks to you. You made it possible by loving me and sticking with me despite it all. Not once did you give up on me; not even when I behaved like a petulant child and stormed out on the day after I accused you of having an affair with Sean. Fuck, I’ve been such a twat.” “Now you’re making me blush,” smirked Jenny, coquettishly. “And I’ve always loved you Rich, even when I despaired at your behaviour; you hurt yourself more than you ever hurt me. Let’s not go back to that time, I wasn’t without rebuke and fault.” He kissed her warmly, his tongue gliding smoothly into her welcoming mouth, withdrawing all to quickly. “Well I hate to do this to you,” he muttered, “But mum and Rachel will be here in a couple of hours.” “Oh no! I can’t believe that Rachel will be in the land of the living. If I was drunk she was absolutely hammered.” “Well they haven’t called to cancel so I guess that they are still coming,” he muttered softly. “What’s it all in aid of anyway?” “That would be a surprise,” Jen giggled coyly. “Anyway don’t you have to go out and collect the rings from the jewellers?” “Yeah I do; at about 2.30pm.” “Cool; I’ll be rid of you for a couple of hours then.” “Rid of me! Is that really anyway to talk to your soon to be husband? I could go all huffy and take it to heart you know.” Richey pouted his lips to try to make her feel guilty, and even managed to have the bottom one quiver a little. “I promise I’ll make it up to you tomorrow,” said Jen. “I won’t complain if you don’t surface until teatime, I’ll keep you supplied with orange juice or coffee, and I promise to be nice and quiet and not take the piss out of you.” “Promise to be there with the vomit bowl and a cold cloth to mop my fevered brow?” “Even those, yes.” “Above and beyond the call of duty I would say.” “In sickness and in health.” “Taking your vows seriously then?” “Yes. Aren’t you?” She nuzzled against his neck; her fingernails scraping over the soft skin of his lower abdomen, making him sigh and close his eyes briefly. “Umm, yes I am. I just didn’t think that that would include a hangover.” “Normally I wouldn’t, but it’s not every week that you have a stag night or get married is it? Having said that,” she gazed up at him, smiled and winked, then added, “we had better have a proper wedding night.” “What do you mean by ‘proper’?” he asked cheekily. “I mean that…oh, Richey,” Jen whimpered. “Oh baby that’s good.” Richey took one of Jen’s nipples in his mouth, sucked on it deeply, scraped his teeth over it making it sting but with pleasure rather than pain, then he flicked over the hard nub with his tongue, loving the way she moaned beneath him, and twisted around on their bed. He made love to her slowly and deliberately; everything was about Jen’s pleasure and contentment. His large hands so gentle and delicate when they caressed her body, knowing just how and where to touch her to make her feel on fire. They panted and moaned as their orgasms hit them, then snuggled up in bed, Jen resting her head on Richey’s chest as a hand stroked his thigh tenderly. Richey meanwhile, planted tiny kisses on top of her blonde hair, his fingertips running up and down her arm affectionately. “I wish I could stay here with you all day,” mumbled Richey. “Perhaps we could call mum and Rachel and cancel it?” Jenny glanced across at the clock; “Too late Red, they’ll be on their way.” She kissed him; with what was supposed to be just a brief peck, but Richey had other ideas and pulled her on top of him once more, her protests getting lost in his ever deepening and demanding kisses. Richey was giving Jen a hug and kiss goodbye, when Rachel and his mum pulled up in a taxi, Rachel obviously unwell and suffering. “See what you mean about my sister,” he giggled, still holding her. “Don’t you dare say anything horrible to her Red, or so help me…” “You’ll what?” he enquired with a huge smirk. “Drag me back to bed and make love with me again?” “Behave! I think you’ve had enough for one day, don’t you!” Jenny said in mock horror. “Never!” he slipped his tongue between her lips and Jen couldn’t stop herself from melting into him, and responding. “You two have time enough for doing that after Thursday,” laughed Sherry as she walked to the door, carrying some bags. She placed them on the floor carefully and gave her son a warm hug and a peck on the cheek. “You have plenty of colour in your cheeks Richey, it suits you.” “Thanks mum,” he grinned, winking slyly at Jen. “And how are you doing sis?” “Uh, don’t even go there Red,” she mumbled, giving him a half hearted hug. “I wanted to stay in bed but mum wouldn’t let me.” “I know the feeling,” Richey grinned wickedly across to Jen, unaware that his mum had seen him. “Son, you’ll have time for that when you’re married, like I said.” “Can’t help it mum,” he whispered into her ear. “Don’t tell Jen this, but I love her you see.” “What am I going to do with you?” she mused, laughing and patting him on his cheeks, he smiled in response and shrugged his shoulders. “Don’t you have some rings to go and collect!” reminded Jenny. “I guess I do,” he sighed heavily, pulling her in for an embrace once more, then he whispered smoulderingly to her, “though I would much rather take you back to bed.” Jen closed her eyes, cupped his buttocks in her hands and met his lips with hers. “I love you.” “Does it always take you two this long to say a quick goodbye?” Rachel queried, smirking coyly. “Right I’m going!” laughed Richey, brandishing his car keys before bounding enthusiastically down the path to his car. The three ladies then all went indoors, Jen putting the kettle on to boil and getting some nice chocolate biscuits out. At first Rachel pulled a face, but temptation got the better of her and she succumbed and tasted one. “Nice.” “Richey found this little family bakery on his travels and bought half a dozen of all the different types they make; we demolished them in a few days so he had to go and buy some more.” Sherry glanced at the towels on the floor in front of the washing machine, and smiled knowingly at Jen. “Running a little late Jenny?” “Erm, yeah. Just a bit,” she blushed. “I was young once you know! Heck, Graham and I still have our moments.” “Mum!” “Rachel honey, we’re not old and it’s perfectly natural.” Jen just giggled as mother and daughter enjoyed a light-hearted exchange. She had never been able to be so natural with her mum, and now they hadn’t spoken in years, in fact Jen had no idea of where her mum lived anymore, or what she was doing. It was only watching intimate scenes like this between Rachel and Sherry that she wondered about things; it never lasted for long though. Jen had been very aware of Sherry’s faith and had ensured that she and Richey were always respectably dressed if there was a chance that she and Graham may pop round. It was only after the fall out, when Richey had gone back home for what turned out to not even be 24 hours, that Sherry had had a quiet word with Jen one-day. Whilst she didn’t approve of them living together, she accepted that they did not share her faith, and was happy to see Richey so happy and in love. She understood that things were different for Richey’s generation and was trying to be as modern a mum as she could be. She certainly was. One hot summer day Jen and Richey had started to fool around in the garden. Deciding it would be better to take things indoors, they duly made their way to the lounge and made love on the sofa, the floor and various other items of furniture. Unfortunately, neither of them had remembered to lock the door, and when Sherry knocked, she thought the cries she heard were ones welcoming her in, thus she opened the door and strode purposely through to the lounge only to find the pair of them in a compromising position. Richey stopped straight away, blushing beetroot red, but Jen, unaware of his mum’s sudden appearance urged him on – very graphically! Sherry smirked out of embarrassment and then announced she would go and make the tea whilst Jen and Richey got dressed again. Richey had wandered through to the kitchen after hurriedly throwing his trousers on, and his mum had kissed him warmly on the cheek, and apologised for interrupting their fun. Jen had been mortified and had been unable to look Sherry in the eyes for a good 10 minutes when they all reconvened in the lounge, but Sherry had made a joke out of it, and assured her that the most embarrassing thing was seeing Richey like that. “Whilst I know my children have sex,” she giggled, “I don’t want to see it. But you know we all get caught or have a close shave at some point, even Graham and I were interrupted once. It’s not as though you’re doing it with someone that you shouldn’t is it now?” Sherry was priceless; but then the whole family was. “Does he have any idea of what you are up to?” asked Rachel as they walked into the bedroom with Jen, grinning wildly when she saw the unkempt nature of the bed. “Erm, not a clue,” Jen blushed, hurriedly throwing the sheet and duvet back onto the bed. “I can’t believe your mum is ok with this, even though she knows we have an active sex life.” “Yeah but you know how broadminded she can be. Actually she thinks it’s very nice that we have designed something so unique that only your husband will see. No one else will ever have anything like these. Though I must admit that I find them a bit disconcerting when I remember that these designs will be turning my brother on. I really have to take a step back because I SO do NOT want to think about it!” “I can’t say that I’m surprised. I was quite astounded when you volunteered when I first mentioned it to be fair." “Oh you know me!” shrieked Rachel with laughter. “I have a habit of opening my mouth without thinking of the consequences.” “Rachel!” “Oh come on, I do it all of the time. I could give Nicky a run for his money when it comes to ‘foot in mouth’ disease. I’m terrible.” “It’s going to be fun having you for a sister-in-law.” “Does that mean that we have more excuses to be wild together?” “Certainly means that we have more reasons to meet up doesn’t it? I can see you as a friend and as family – the best of both worlds.” “That will wind Richey up. He knows only too well what we’re like when we start.” “No, what he dreads is the two of us AND Nicky and James; that’s when he knows he’s on to a hiding to nothing.” “Rachel laughed; “Oh my poor brother! Anyhow, go and take some of these and try them on, they should all fit. All that’s left is to add a few finishing touches.” “You don’t mind me stripping off to my knickers in front of you do you? It’s seems a bit pointless going in and out of the bathroom every two minutes.” “If you’re ok with that it’s fine by me.” All the lingerie items fitted perfectly, and Rachel assured Jen that they would be finished by Wednesday at the latest, so that Jen would be able to add them to her suitcase without Richey knowing. Jen had no clue as to where they would be honeymooning, only that they would be spending a week away. On return Richey would then have some obligations to fulfil. They would then have a further couple of weeks away in two months. All that mattered to Jen and Richey was that they got to spend some much-needed time on their own. After washing her hair, Jen sat down in a chair in the kitchen and Sherry proceeded to give her hair a trim. Jen had had it cut quite short just after they had announced their engagement, but now it had grown back to shoulder length. For the wedding Jen had decided to wear it in a nice simple style so that she wouldn’t need to spend a lot of time over it, and the natural highlights from the sun seemed to make it even shinier. “You are going to be absolutely stunning,” smiled Sherry proudly. “My son is a very fortunate young man, and as far as Graham and myself are concerned, we couldn’t love you anymore if you were our own flesh and blood, and you and Rachel are so like sisters, it’s amazing. We’re pleased as punch that you’re joining our family.” A tear escaped and Sherry wiped it away swiftly, but Jen had already seen it. “He makes me happy and I love him. I never stood a chance,” she giggled nervously. “And you know how I look upon you and Graham, and of course Rachel. I love you all to bits and you mean the world to me, so thank you for that Sherry.” “Think it’s time you started calling me ‘mum’ don’t you?” All three ladies exchanged glances and began laughing. “Thanks mum,” giggled Jen. “Is it safe to come in or shall I disappear for a while?” asked Richey sweetly. “You can come in,” called Rachel. “Mum’s just finishing Jen’s hair.” “Hi ya beautiful,” he beamed, bestowing a kiss affectionately on her forehead. “I got them.” “Can we have a peek?” asked Sherry excitedly. Jen nodded to Richey, who took two small boxes out from the bag he’d been carrying, flipped open the lids, then gave one box to Rachel and one to his mum. Sherry studied the ring carefully, gazed up at Richey and smiled broadly, and proudly. “They are just, well, words fail me,” she stammered, still somewhat stunned. “They’re unique, beautiful and understated. Richey, they’re magnificent.” “He’s designed them wonderfully don’t you think?” said Jen glowing with pride. “He has indeed.” “I didn’t know that my brother had it in him to do ‘understated elegance’ but he has, and the engravings are so romantic.” “Well, I’ve also got a little something else,” he winked, this time taking a larger box out of the bag. “Now I didn’t design this, but as soon as I saw it I fell in love with it and had to buy it for you. Go on, open it.” Richey said excitedly passing the box over to her. With shaking hands, Jenny opened the box and gasped when she saw what was inside, a ruby and diamond pendant in the shape of a heart, on a platinum and gold chain. The heart itself was an inch long and dazzled brightly. “Ohhh Richey.” “You like it?” he asked tentatively. “I love it, I really do! I don’t know what to say, ‘thank you’ just doesn’t seem enough.” “I thought perhaps you could wear it for the wedding – call it my present to you.” “Care to do me the honour of fastening it for me please Red?” Delicately and tenderly Richey placed the chain around Jen’s neck and fastened the clasp for her, beaming to himself as his mum beamed with joy and pride, he then moved in front of Jen to see it in all it’s glory. Rachel picked up one of the mirrors they’d been using, so that Jen could see it for herself. She couldn’t prevent her tears from falling. “Oh Richey, thank you,” she gushed. “It’s amazing.” “So are you,” he smiled, then he bent down a little and gave her a deep, meaningful kiss. “I wanted something that would do you justice so it had to be quite spectacular.” “Just as well I’m finished here,” Sherry grinned. “Time for us to leave you two alone I think.” Jen and Richey grinned knowingly at each other, catching his mum’s obvious inference, and Rachel sat blushing as she watched the open display of love, respect and affection. After making love they had a shower, Richey growing more and more reluctant to go on his stag night because he wanted to stay curled up to Jen, and she had reminded him that they would be able to spend plenty of nights, and days fore that, curled up together. “I’ll have a glass or two of wine and watch some soppy, pathetic girlie film,” she teased him as they dried themselves. “No doubt I’ll get a pizza out of the freezer and be perfectly content, so don’t you worry.” “I’m not worried,” he said. “I know you’ll be fine it’s just I don’t really feel like going now.” He stood over the sink, completely naked, and brushed his teeth with gusto, making her laugh when he pulled funny faces at her. “Oh damn,” groaned Jen, quickly lifting up the toilet seat and then violently vomiting into the bowl. “Baby, are you ok?” Richey asked after rinsing his mouth, and kneeling on the floor beside her. “What is it?” Jen continued vomiting for several minutes, and then took time to compose herself so she was able to talk. “I’ve been stupid,” she panted, she trying to catch her breath back. “I haven’t eaten all day, and I’ve had lots of excitement, now here I am in a hot, stuffy bathroom. Don’t panic Richey, I’ll be as right as rain as soon as I eat something.” “Promise me that’s all it is,” he urged, worry all over his face, stroking her skin lovingly. “Sweetheart, I promise,” she smiled back as best she could. “Now get dressed, go out and have fun. If you come back early because of me I will be very angry with you.” “I’m not sure,” he stuttered, helping Jen to her feet. “I promise I’m fine ok?” Richey’s eyes searched hers and she did appear to be telling him the truth, so eventually he did relent and get dressed to go out. “You smell adorable,” she grinned, cupping his face in her hands and rubbing her nose against his. “It’s not too late for me to cancel and stay in with you,” Richey winked at her and patted her bottom, letting her know what he was alluding to. “Haven’t you had enough for one day?” “All day, every day wouldn’t be enough.” “That does it!” Jen shrieked hysterically. “Go on, off you go. With corny lines like that being bandied about you obviously need some male company.” “Ah yes! There’ll be Nick and James tonguing each other every five minutes; Sean pining for Catherine; my dad reminding me of how much I’ve had to drink; Martin and Philip telling me not to do anything that I’ll regret in the morning…” “And Nick, Dave and all the others encouraging you to every unthinkable and debauched thing there is to do, and that’s just for starters! You’ll have a good time and you know that you will.” With that the doorbell and the dulcet tones of Nicky and James could be heard laughing madly. Jenny opened the door and laughed when she saw Nick, resplendent in green and pink glittery eyeshadow and pink lipgloss, not to mention the tasteful blue mini dress and feather boa. Still, at least he wasn’t high heels though he did have some very striking, sparkly accessories in his hair. “Why Nicky,” Jen said, trying to stop herself from giggling. “You look so, umm, well, erm, yes, don’t you.” “I know it’s a stag night but I thought I’d impress my husband by dressing up for him,” he grinned, flashing his jaws smile, apparently unaware of how ridiculous he looked. “And I’ve told you that I appreciate it Nick,” said James rolling his eyes. “It’s just it’s supposed to be Richey’s night and you’re going to be getting all the attention.” “Aww, are you jealous honey?” “Not yet I’m not but if you start trying to pull when you’ve had a few drinks, then I will be.” “Just go and have fun guys ok,” Jen laughed as Richey joined them. “Just don’t take his clothes off him, don’t tie him up, don’t shave his head or his eyebrows, and NO, repeat NO tattoo’s.” “Ah, that’s no problem,” James tittered. “We’re gonna dye his hair green. You never mentioned that.” “Go now!” “See you later darling,” Richey grinned, kissing the tip of her nose. “Sure you’re ok?” “GO!” She pointed for him to go and join James and Nicky who were now walking hand in hand down the path. “Have fun and I’ll see you later.” Jenny didn’t watch any girlie movies, drink any wine or eat any pizza. Not long after Richey left, she had been sick again, and that was not the only time. Richey called several times before midnight to make sure that she was all right. When he first called it had taken her some while to convince him, but by the third it was easier to fob him off due to the amount of alcohol he’d consumed. The sound of boisterous laughter and things being knocked over woke Jen up at 4.43am. She rubbed her head, moaned, yawned and got out of bed, and quickly pulled on her pyjama bottoms and descended down the stairs to see what all the commotion was. Even though her stomach was once more on the verge of spilling it’s non-existent contents Jen had to grin. Nicky had collapsed face down on one of the sofas with his bare arse being flashed for the entire world to see, and James was trying very, very hard, to keep a very giggly and happily smashed Richey on his feet. How sweet he looked. Richey was grinning inanely and in between singing snippets of love songs was telling James how much he adored Jen and what a lucky guy he was. “Yeah Red I know. You’ve told me like I don’t know how many times.” James’ deep brown eyes pleaded with Jen for help, but then he noticed the way she was flinching and mouthed to her if she was all right, Jen merely nodded and walked over to the two, unsteady men. “Come on sexy,” she said wrapping one of Richey’s arms over her shoulder, whilst James took the other one. “Let’s get you in to bed.” “Jen I don’t think I can love,” he slurred slightly. “I think I had a teeny bit too much to drink.” “I would say that that is an understatement,” she whispered to James, who smirked and nodded in agreement. With some difficulty they struggled with him up the stairs and into the bedroom. Part way through removing his clothes, he fell asleep on the bed. As if her body now knew that it could relax, her own nausea resurfaced and Jen had to dash to the toilet to be sick, yet again. When she eventually emerged James had finished undressing Richey and covered him with the sheet and duvet, and was sat on one of the bedroom chairs. “Thanks,” mumbled Jen, stumbling across to the bed. “Richey said you weren’t well, Jen you look awful.” “Gee thanks.” She tried to force a smile but it came out as a grimace. “Last night catching up with me. I haven’t eaten all day and there’s been quite a lot going on.” “You should see a doctor, though I suspect he won’t be able to do a whole lot.” “Great! You really know how to cheer a girl up don’t you?” “Well as I see it, it’s one of two things,” he started to say. “Whoa hang on a sec. How come you’re so sober?” “I’m not that sober. I just didn’t knock my drinks back as quickly as they did, and, I actually went on to orange juice at one point.” “I’m impressed.” “You’ve derailed me!” “Sorry.” “It’s either pre-wedding nerves, in which case it’ll go away in a few days, or you’re pregnant.” He said it so matter of factly that Jen was stunned. “Surely not!” she gasped. “No it can’t be. It can’t.” “Jen love,” James sighed moving over to sit next to her on the bed. “It’s not as though you’re a virgin now, is it?” he said somewhat sarcastically. “No but…” she stumbled. “Oh James. What if I am? What will Red say? We talked about trying for a family a year or so from now. Oh hell fire!” Her head slumped forward and she rubbed her face in disbelief. “He’ll be as happy as a pig in muck,” James smiled, putting an arm around her and cradling her to him. “And if he ain’t he bloody well should be! But, look on the bright side.” “Bright side?” “If he doesn’t want you anymore, you can be all mine.” “What about Nicky?” she giggled. “No way is he having you!” James laughed, and Jen laughed with him. “That’s better. You’ll be fine, the pair of you.” “Well maybe it is just nerves.” “Anything is possible,” he said tenderly. “Right, I’m going to bed. My other half can stay where he is for now.” “I can help you get him into bed if you want.” “Leave him down there. He’ll wake up in a few hours, and will either flop ONTO the sofa rather than over it, or come and find me. Don’t worry, I locked all the doors for you.” “Thanks James.” “No problem. Now go and brush your teeth and what have you, and get into bed with your husband to be.” “Yes boss!” she teased making her way to the bathroom. When she came back out, James bade her goodnight and tootled off to a spare room. Part 2 >>> <<< Janey's stories |
