LIFE AFTER CARDIFF  by Janey

“Sean sweetheart,” called Jenna from the kitchen.  “Is that you?”
Sean stood in the doorway and watched her knead the bread dough out on the worktop.  He smiled at her softly; she looked so cute.  Her curly brown hair had flecks of flour in it; flour was also dusted over her face, and her t-shirt was covered in the fine pale brown powder.
“Yeah baby.  Finally I’m back.” Slowly he walked behind her and kissed the back of her neck.  “Traffic was horrendous.”
“People out getting their last minute Christmas shopping,” Jenna giggled rubbing her head against him and thus dusting him with some of the powder.
“All right, you’ve made your point,” he said grudgingly.  “I got your birthday present too.”
“Ooh, can I see?”
“NO!” he jokingly admonished.  “I got the shops to giftwrap everything so you will have to be patient and wait.”
“If I must.”

Sean watched as she deftly divided the dough into two equal portions and shaped it to fit the two waiting tins.  Jenna then slashed the tops of the dough with a knife and popped them into the oven.
“I could have bought you a bread maker,” he offered.  “It would have stopped all of this bloody mess!”
“Seany darling,” she simpered seductively.  “You know how I love getting dirty.”
“Don’t!  Not when I can’t do anything about it,” he pleaded.
“Why can’t you?”
“The small matter of some guests arriving in an hour; the kitchen looking like a bombsite; the table hasn’t been set and we both need to shower and change.  All of that to do before the bread’s done; we can’t burn homemade bread.”

“I’m sure that we have time for a quickie,” she said temptingly.
“Darling, whenever we set out for a quickie we always end up being late somewhere or for something because we get carried away.  James and Nicky will not be impressed if they turn up here and discover that we are neglecting them in favour of some nookie!”
What Sean was saying was absolutely true, ever since they had first met two years before; the attraction between them had been evident; and instantaneous.

Jenna had won a competition in her home country of Denmark to attend a Manics gig at Wembley, stay at a plush hotel, and go to the after show party and meet the band.  James, Nicky and Sean had all met competition winners and fans more times than they could recall, but that night was very different.  Sean had been reluctant to leave her side and the cuddles they shared for photographs provoked one hell of a response in them both.

It was so easy to get along with Jenna and everything about her captivated and mesmerised him in equal measure.  After leaving her and going back to his hotel room Sean had been unable to get her out of his mind.  Unbeknownst to him, Jenna was also having trouble sleeping; unable to forget the feel of his arms around her; the warmth of his breath on her cheek when they cuddled and the softness of him.  They were extremely pleasant thoughts and images but nonetheless, they prevented her from finding the sleep that her body was craving after a long day of travelling.

Several nights later, at Cardiff, Sean noticed her stood waiting for autographs and/or photographs with some other fans after the gig.
“Jenna!” he beamed brightly urging James and Nicky over to say hello. “It’s great to see you again.  Do you fancy another party?”
“Are you kidding?  I’d love it!”
“Come on then; this way to the car.”

Jenna grinned maniacally ignoring the angry and jealous glances of some of the other fans; she just couldn’t believe her luck; the object of her desires and fantasies was inviting her to spend some time with them at a party for a select few.  How lucky was she?

She was further surprised to learn that Sean was actually driving his own car rather than going with a driver, so she would be alone with him for a while.
‘Oh please don’t let make an idiot of myself,’ she thought, fastening her seatbelt.
“Now,” said Sean in a firm but friendly tone; “do we take the direct route, or the scenic route?”
Jenna smiled nervously, fiddling with her leopard print coat under the seatbelt.  “Well I don’t really know the area so the scenic route would be good, unless you’re in a hurry of course.”
“Love, if I was in a hurry to get there, I would never have asked you to come with me.”
Jenna had no answer for that.

Eventually they arrived at the party over an hour after Nicky, James and Martin who all smirked knowingly at them both.
“What’s up cousin?” asked James jovially drinking from a pint of bitter.  “Get lost?”
“Something like that,” Sean answered without hesitation or sign of embarrassment.

The whole point of these do’s was to mingle but Sean stuck firmly beside Jenna, chatting and laughing, and he wouldn’t move in spite of Martin’s angry rebuke.  She made him feel fresh and alive.  They had spent their time alone in the car talking about things that they both enjoyed; Jenna impressing him with her knowledge of Liverpool’s most recent matches until she confessed, in fits of laughter, that a friend had told her what to say.  Time and journey flew by, and if he was honest, Sean could have quite happily not turned up to the party at all; he was enjoying her company so much.

“I need to get back to my hostel,” moaned Jenna heavily after checking her watch.
“I don’t think so,” said Sean.  “I’m sure that we can find a room for you at our hotel.  Of course failing that…” He allowed his sentence to tail off, leaving her hanging.
“Yes?” she eventually asked intrigued by what he was going to suggest.
“Well I have this huge bed in my room and it seems such a shame to have so much of it empty when you could make use of it.”

‘Those eyes,’ thought Jenna.  ‘How beautiful are those eyes?  I think I’m in love’.

“So what do you say?” queried Sean when she didn’t answer.
“I erm…I don’t know quite what to say,” she spluttered.
“Yes would be good, but I do understand if you turn me down, me being a strange man and all that!”
“You’re not strange Sean.”
“There are those that would strongly disagree with that statement,” he giggled.
“Perhaps because they don’t really know you,” smiled Jenna, stroking his arm.  “If you’re sure then yes, I’d love to.”
“You’re sure now?”
“Yes I’m sure,” she tittered.
“Good he smiled in relief.  “Come on; let’s get out of here.”

Nicky and James watched Sean and Jenna slink off, smiling knowingly to each other.
“I knew it,” proclaimed Nicky proudly.  “Soon as I saw the way he was with her after the Wembley gig I knew it.  It was just a matter of time.”
“Yeah I know; the ‘Wire’ crystal ball strikes again!” agreed James.  “I must confess I’m surprised that my little cousin had it in him to be that forward or quick though.”
“Maybe they’ve already done the dirty deed!” Nicky teased.  “That could be why they were late you know.”
“Nick, Sean’s almost as much of a neat freak as you, so I can’t imagine him risking sullying his nice BMW with bodily fluids.”
“Delicately put James.”
“Piss off!” he retorted, tapping Nicky on the shoulder in a gesture of friendship.
“Do you think it will be a brief fling?” Deliberately Nicky guided James into another part of the room when he saw Martin approaching with a look he recognised as meaning trouble.  “Sorry but Martin was heading straight for us.”

“Yeah I figured,” moaned James.  “He won’t be happy that we’re ignoring so many supposedly important people, and poor Seanus won’t know what’s hit him when Martin catches up with him.  Remember how he used to shout and scream at Richey when he’d disappear without saying anything?  He’ll be none too impressed.”
“Anyhow,” interrupted Nicky, “you didn’t answer my question.”
“Well it’s only a guess but I think that they’ll be together for a long time to come; just like us.”  Sneakily James allowed a hand to wander down and caress Nicky’s sleek backside.

“James!” castigated Nicky, shocked at James’ flagrant display of affection around so many prominent people.  “You’ll get us busted.”
To torment Nicky further, James sidled right up close to him and whispered in a sexy, husky voice; “I want to bend you over and take you from behind.”
“In for a penny in for a pound,” winked Nicky.  “Put that beer down and let’s go.”
“Are you planning on seducing me Nicky?”
“If you don’t want to shag me before I go home to Rachel it’s your loss sweetie.”

James gave him one of the dirtiest grins that Nicky thought he had ever seen and it made his stomach lurch, the hairs on his arms and the back of his neck stand on end and his skin tingle.  As wrong as their relationship was, neither could stop but keeping it a secret was getting harder and harder.
“Nicky honey,” smiled James.  “I have an apartment waiting for us.  Let’s go there instead of the hotel room.”
All Martin could do was stare as James and Nicky left the party.  To say he was furious was an understatement.

“Jenna honey,” called Sean from the bathroom.
“Yeah?”  She continued to apply her make-up.
“I just heard a car pull up.”
“Sean what am I supposed to do? My hair’s still wet and I’m not fucking dressed.”
The bathroom door opened and Sean walked into the bedroom wearing only a small towel.  “Given their sexual persuasion I doubt they’ll be bothered about you being naked, where as I…”
“…Where as you need to calm down and go and let them in!  Pour them a drink and apologise for our tardiness; by then I should be ready,” smiled Jenna devilishly.
“I am so ready for you right now,” said Sean without disguising his disappointment, fastening up his trousers.
“And I’ll still be here when James and Nicky go home.”
Muttering away to himself Sean descended the stairs and prepared to greet his friends.

Cardiff had been the start of new chapters for all of them.  Sean and Jenna began dating after a night of the most explosive and satisfying love making that either of them had ever experienced.  Jenna then spent the next eight months between Denmark and the UK, finishing her university exams and spending time with Sean.

James and Nicky had spent a long time talking after making love, both of them deciding that they needed to be honest with themselves and stop living a lie.  Nicky had then called Rachel and explained that he was stupefied and so was staying at James’ rather than travelling back home.  Rachel had thought nothing of it; it wasn’t the first time her husband had got too pissed to go home.

He never spent another night with her.

Shock waves had coursed through the music industry and Manics fans.  James and Nicky had both left their wives so that they could be together and it baffled people.  Nick had always had what was considered to be a rock solid marriage whereas James hadn’t been married very long at all.

They all sure knew how to do things!

“Jenna that was beautiful!” Nicky gushed.  “I wish you’d teach James how to cook.”
“Hey!” protested James, helping Sean load up the dishwasher.  “I heard that!  I can do egg and chips and a fry up so stop complaining!”
“Come on you guys, how long does it take to fill that machine?” called Jenna.
“Patience woman!” laughed Sean, shutting the door and setting the dishwasher going.
“Hard to believe that we’ve been in our relationships for officially two years isn’t it?” smiled Nicky, caressing James’ hand when he joined him back at the table.  “Happy anniversary folks!”
“To us!” the four of them declared.

“Jenna,” Sean sighed hugging her to his torso as they recovered from their lovemaking.
“Umm?” she whimpered snuggling against his chest.
“Marry me.”
Jenna raised her head and gazed lovingly into his beautiful chestnut eyes.  “Are you serious?”
He giggled nervously, pushing some of her soft curly hair from her face.  “I am.  I love you Jenna, right from that first time I met you at the Wembley party, I knew it.”
Overcome with happiness Jenna started to cry, she couldn’t help it; this was a moment she had never dared hope for.  She loved him so much but he was older than she was and her childhood insecurities always left her with a fear that he would grow tired of her and leave.   Instead he had made a commitment to her by buying their house with her, six months ago.

“Oh darling come on,” he urged, cradling her and using his thumbs to wipe her tears away.  “Is it such a scary proposition?”
With that Jenna tittered; he always knew the right thing to say.  “Oh I’m sorry,” she spluttered.  “I love you so much but I never dreamt…”
“You’re sorry that you love me?” he teased, spinning her beneath him and caressing her affectionately.  “Gee, boost a guys ego why don’t you?”
“YES! Yes I’ll marry you if you’re sure it’s what you really want,” she blushed.
“I really do because I love you Jenna.  You are a breath of fresh air for me and I love you so much.  I loved you two years ago and I love you even more now, and that will never stop.”
“Oh darling come here!”

The end.
