GEOGRAPHIC
Situated
in Southeast Transylvania, Brasov is surrounded on three sides by
mountains. The climate is temperate continental, with a cool and
relatively wet weather.
The average temperature: 7.6°C. Summer is lasting around 50 days per
year as well as the winter. The usual summer temperature: 22°C –
27°C. In winter the usual temperature: -10°C – -2°C.
The average humidity in the air: 75%. The yearly amount of rain is
around 600-700 mm/m². The wind is usually blowing from West and
Northwest with speeds from 1.5 to 3.2 m/s.
Not far from the town the visitor can climb the tallest mountains in
Romania: Fagaras Mountains, with the highest peaks in Romania,
Moldoveanu Peak (2543 m) and Nehoiu peak (2535 m); Bucegi Mountains with
spectacular fauna and vegetation. The Tampa Mountain is the symbol of
Brasov. A great tourist destination, the top of the mountain (995m)
offers a great view of the old Brasov. Postavarul Mountain is not only
the best skiing destination in Romania with its Poiana Brasov resort,
but also a good place for studying various plants and wild animals such
as bear and deer.
Piatra Craiului Mountain, situated some 25 km far from Brasov, was
declared a natural reservation. You can admire their rare mountain
vegetation or just climb its spectacular peaks.
HISTORY
Brasov is
an old medieval city. The buildings of Brasov can tell you a lot about
the evolution of the city throughout different ages. Also known as
Kronstadt or Corona, Brasov was the home of some of the best craftsmen,
jewelers, and traders living in Transylvania.
