A photo I took of "Dbl Ch Gemstone Colgate"a beautiful example of a satin PE white,  owned / bred by Gemma & Maria Amos, Gemstone Stud NSW

Any recognised
self cavy can be satinised, as
long as it conforms to the Australian Standard for that breed.

Although any cavy breed can be satinised, some breeds show the satinisation better than others - for this reason, self blacks and self chocolates are not commonly bred as a satin, as the shimmer is very hard to see.
right is a photo I took of a lineup of satins at a recent show.  From bottom - top:
cream, slate, buff, de golden, pe white, chocolate himalayan, chocolate agouti, cream agouti and  crested chocolate himalayan.

The satin self must still conform to the regular self standard for the appropriate breed, however the satin gene does seem to darken the coat slightly, but only a shade.
left & below, Gemstone Caramel Kisses, a satin cream owned / bred by Gemma & Maria Amos, Gemstone Stud
left are 2 litters of newborn satins, bred by Nicole Johnson,  Bivoir Cavies, NSW Australia.
right (with friend) and above right, Ch Pipqueak Winston, a satin buff owned / bred by Julie Brewer, Pipsqueak Stud NSW

Sometimes when looking at a satin self, the coat appears to be different shades, more time then none this is not the case - it is just the light reflecting off the coat at different angles and showing the satinisation at different intensities.

The most commonly seen self breeds that are satinised are the self
whites, cream, buff and goldens.
