MARKED AOV
(any other variety)
Click any photos to view them at full size.  You will need to click "back" to return to this page.

This page lists all of the breeds which are exhibited together in the "any other variety" marked cavies in Australia.  There are very few of these "AOV" marked cavies shown, as they are quite hard to breed with markings in the correct places.

Tortoiseshell
The Tortoiseshell is very similar to the
torti and white, except with the obvious exclusion of the white patches.  The body is made up of even red and black squares on alternate sides of the body.

TriColour
The tricolour has the same markings (colour patch placement) as the
torti & white, except that the three colours are any (standardised) combination other than black, red and white together.  These colours can included ticked breeds.  Often a lilac / gold / white combination is referred to as a "rainbow"

Sable
The sable is a very hard breed to describe.  The black is a sepia brown colour with the head and ears being a darker shade.  The body from the back fades as it goes underneath the body, with the stomach being a beige colour.

head and the stomach.

bi-coloured cavy

BiColour
This breed has the same marking pattern as the tortoiseshell, except that the two colours are any (standardised) combination other than black and red.  These colours can include ticked breeds.

a lovely magpie "Moreton", owned by Nicole Johnson, Bivoir Cavies NSW

Magpie
The magpie has coat markings similar to a tortioseshell and white (colour placement that is) except that the three colours are black, white and black/white mixed (like
roaning).
Magpie markings can often be present in other breeds, an example is this abyssinian, "Chinoise Caligraphy", Chinoise Stud NSW

Harlequin
This harlequin is very similar to the "magpie" breed mentioned above, with the only difference being that the colours of this breed are black, yellow (cream) and black/yellow brindling.  Alternatively, chocolate can be seen instead of black.

Brindle
The brindle's coat consists of an even mixture of black and red hairs (similar to
roaning) and covers the entire body - without any solid areas.
sorry, no photo available
As these breeds are not very common, it is often hard to locate photos.
