Here it is! The 79 Malibu SS. When this picture was taken; I was getting ready to yank the six cyl. Pics of that soon to come. I like the stance this car has; and I like the rims and tint job, too. The sticker on the rear window says "Holley Equipped". The 2x4's behind the rear wheels are there because the driveshaft is currently yanked out. I have some more pics; and I hope to have them up soon.

About Me: I'm 16 years old, and I'm from London Ontario. My hobbies include cars, music, and movies. I have a 1979 Chevrolet Malibu 2 door, and a 1980 Chevrolet Monte Carlo. My Favorite band is Metallica. I also enjoy Slayer, and Megadeth. I have been around cars my whole life. It all began with my dad's 1966 L-79 Chevy II Nova, 327, 350 horse, 4-speed car. That was truly the first car I ever remember working on. It went on from there, mostly Novas, and now that I'm old enough, me and my dad are into the newer G-Body stuff, which is alot easier to find than a nova from the 60's. I like to build engines, so far i've built 2, a small block 305 HO, from an 86 Monte Carlo SS, and a 1970 350 4-bolt small block Chev from a Corvette. It's what's going into my Malibu. I'm really into cars, especially anything pre-80's. 60's & 70's Chevelles, Novas, El Caminos, Camaros, anything that looks cool and had a lot of power. I'm taking a specialized automotive course at a high school next year; and hopefully some recognition will be granted; as I BUILT the engine that's going into my car. There is a certain amount of pride; when someone asks who built the engine; and you can say "I did."

I hope to attain enough parts to build a stroker 400 engine. I'm going to use a 400 block, with ford 6.209 inch rods, and put a 3.25 inch stroke, big journal 327 crank into the block. This combonation (with a .030 overbore on the block) equals 352 cubic inches. Hot Rod magazine built one of these engines, and it made around 435 horsepower. The reason it makes so much power is because the elongated rods allow for dwell time at top dead centre, preventing detonation. So you can run 11.5:1 compression on 87 octane gas with no spark retard or detonation. One of these motors will really make a 3200 pound car go like stink.

Once again, sorry for the lack of updates. Got my 400 block, and also got a 305 shortblock i'm thinking of doing a re-ring and bearing on, slapping on some old smog castings, an iron intake, and a q-jet, and doing a 7000 rpm brick on the gas pedal endurance test. Oh yeah, and some knobgobbler tried to steal my car, out of my driveway, without a gas tank in it. So i've got to get both doors fixed now, and when they realized they couldnt steal my car, they went across the street and attempted to steal a Monte Carlo SS, a car that's at a shop, without a motor in it. MOOOORRRRONNN...let's just say, if he wants the car so bad, he can come back to my place, i'll throw the keys on the lawn, and whoever picks 'em up first can have the car. This will result in him becoming severely injured. But anyways...I've been hanging out at the camaro.net message boards, they're pretty damn sweet.

Sorry for the lack of updates, but the car is now up and running. The car has a nice rumble at idle, and SCREAMS at WOT. I've swapped out the 700R4 for a TH-350. More updates soon to follow. Also added an MSD-6A box.

News: August 1st, 2001

Open wide! The 6 & TH-350 came out today. The tranny was leaking oil at the tailshaft like the exxon-valdez; but other than that; the swap was okay. I forgot to remove the starter - and that proved to be a pain in the ass; because it kept catching on the motor mount. So I yanked it; and the motor came out NOO problem. Got a real nice stain on the driveway from the ATF though. Got 'er pretty close to clean with the pressure washer though. Tomorrow I think I'm going to clean out the engine bay. And paint it. Maybe catch some POR-15 for it. We'll see what I can afford. I also bought a good book from E-Bay today. It's called the Small Block Chevrolet Code Book. The book interprets the code stamped on the block immediately in front of the passenger side cylinder head. Pretty slick. Hope to have more news tomorrow.

Got the gauges wired up. The stock ones, anyway. Now the turn signals work. Yaaaay!. All the other lights work, too. I have a few extra wires, though, and the gas gauge doesn't work very well. But I can live with it. The speedometer is lit, and the turn signals, and brake warning lights work. That's all I needed. I'm soon going to change the steering column...but I'm not sure when yet. I need a buncha time to do it; and I still need that crazy tool to take the lock plate off so i can change the horn mounting thingy - it's busted. I'm gonna see, though, if there's a way around it - but the horn still works.

News: July 26th, 2001

Got the zoomies (headers, for the uneducated) today. Nice hooker ones, wrapped with wrap tape. Looks pretty slick. That's about all the news I've got for you today. Going to get to wiring the gauges tomorrow. If I get up early enough. Maybe do the steering column, too. We'll see.

Well, I put the 80 taillights on the car last night. Now there's no cracked glass that i can get hassled about. They actually don't look half bad, to tell you the truth. There's still tape on them from when the moron got the other car painted. Musta picked a real CHOICE paint shop. I haven't had squat time to work on it - I actually changed the taillights at 10pm last night. "So, that's an 80, right?" says some viewer. "Nope", says me. I can't wait to see the countless arguments over this one. *laugh* Well...It's time for me to pretend to work.

News: July 21st, 2001

I went out to Darren's place last night to grab some other parts off the old 'bu. I got all the chrome I needed, plus a trunk lid, taillights, headlights, parking lights, a bunch of other chrome shit, a seat rail, engine harness, cluster harness, etc, etc. There's still some other crap I'd LIKE to grab outta that car - the glass, for instance. The hood is still out there; and I'd like to grab that, too - just to have a spare. Because if memory serves me correctly; that hood is pretty clean. Man that car was ROTTEN. EVERYWHERE. Hopefully I can get my 'bu saftied soon. It'll probably be on the road by the end of the summer.

So, the battery died again. I took the caps off, and discovered that there was no water in the battery. So I topped it up; then borrowed Ted's charger to get 'er goin again. Starts reaaal easy now. Also decided I was going to change the valve cover gaskets. Got one done; then looked at the passenger side one; and noticed a real nice hole in it. No wonder you could hear (and smell) burning oil when the car was running. I keep blowing brakelight fuses; and I can't figure out why. Maybe it's for the best though; because I never remember to turn the damn hazard flashers off. Gonna be ready for a safety real soon. Just need new underpadding - 'cause the stuff that's in it now stinks like a hot ass in the summertime. If it's cheap enough though; I may just buy new carpet; too. Ordered my gauges, and Ted told me he's got a set of Hedman wrapped "hedders" for $125. So I think I'm gonna grab those. That's all thats new for now. Car wise; anyways ;-).

News: July 16th, 2001

It's 8:30am, and I haven't slept in two days. The 'glass on the floor is finally dry. I also found out that the headlight bezels are available through a different dealer for around forty bucks each Canadian. The 'bu has had it's steering box replaced, with an 800 series quick-ratio one. Which is a good thing. Maan I'm tired and I could REALLY go for some coffee. Or something. ANYTHING. Oh yeah, I'm at the wonderful world of "work" where people ask me if the pool table is really broken. Is there an out of order sign on it? Yes? THEN ITS OUT OF FUCKING ORDER!. Everyone out there in internet land have a nice day though; okay? I know I will... (dripping with sarcasm)

News: July 14th, 2001

I got the car back from Ted's yesterday, and he has fixed the floor for me. I have to seal it up with some fiberglass, but other than that - the floor's done. I pressure washed the carpet out of the car yesterday. Most of the dirt and shit came out - but there's still that wonderful purple stain in the rear passenger side. Lots of laundry detergent, and lots of water got most of it out. I ordered my tach yesterday, too. Auto-Meter 3904, 5" Sport-Comp Monster with Shift-Lite. Also priced out gauges, it'll cost me $270 Cdn. for Volts, Oil Pressure, and Water Temperature, with the gauge pods.

News: July 8th, 2001

Craig, of Stroked 57 has informed me that he has the parts I need to get my ride on the road. He's got the taillights I need, and a bunch of other miscellaneous crap. I also may have found a parts car; but it's in Chicago. I also called the dealership today for prices on headlight bezels, and a grille. The grille (PN 14008338) is discontinued, but the left and right headlight bezels (PN 14008335 (left) and PN 14008336 (right)) are still available for $63.30 Cdn. Yikes. $145.59 Cdn., with taxes.

News: July 6th, 2001

It rained yesterday. No biggie. Except for the fact that someone has reinstalled the glass on my car; and did so incorrectly. So; the window seals leak; creating a puddle in the rear seat area. Thus causing RUST; which is no good. So; I had to go through with a rag and dry the entire thing out - then re-coat it with undercoating. Not fun. When I get paid - the car goes to Ted's to have the floor finished - and I am going to buy a window strip kit. I also need to buy weatherstripping and repair the bottoms of the doors. Love the Canadian rust problems. *Sigh* I'm moving to Florida.

News: July 5th, 2001

I went to Fastlane yesterday and got the prices for my various gauges. The Tach is going to cost me $150, the oil pressure gauge about $50, the water temperature gauge about $60, and the voltmeter, around $45 or so. The pots to hold the gauges are around $20 a piece. Colin also told me that the gears for my car are $300. Structurally; the car will soon be going back to Ted's to get the floor finished. The Pan on the driver's side front is real soft; and there are quite a few holes in it. He's already patched a couple holes in the floor, and done a pre-safety. Hopefully Mark at the dealership in town wont be a fag about the tint; which is REALLY dark on this car. I'm still looking for any and all 79 ONLY malibu parts. I am in desperate need for a left side taillight, and some rust free seat rails. Any help would be appreciated. I also have a garage full of parts; if anyone needs anything they could let me know and I could tell you if I have what you're looking for. I also still have the Monte Carlo. It's an 80 - For sale. I'm asking a grand Canadian for it; it's absolutely perfect underneath; no rust at all. All you need to do is stick your engine and tranny in; and you're off to the races.
