Exclusive chat with Marguerite Moreau on scifi.com 3/8/02

I was in the chat room and saved this. Sci-Fi said they would post it later, but never did. The two Malcolm questions were mine.

Sci-Fi: What's the mini-series about?

Marguerite: The miniseries is about Charlie, all grown up. She's ready for boys and always has that fire problem. She wants to confront her past, so she can move on with her future and does not realize that they have been looking for. Rainbird is not dead, in fact, he's continued on with experiments at the Shop. There are kids just like Charlie and he is under the support of a private corporation that is gonna sell the children to the government as a global weapon. Charlie is the ultimate weapon in Rainbird's eyes and he has a personal agenda. He feels that if he can find her, then he can die. She doesn't understand why he couldn't die the first time. It's a dilemma. Then there's the boy Vincent (Danny Nucci). Vincent unknowingly tracks her down and there's a spark, (excuse the pun) it gets complicated from there…you can kind of guess what can happen.

Does Charlie have any more control of her Pyrokineses?

Yes, she has control. It's a problem she wants to let go but....what will...happen?

What's the deal with Rainbird? What exactly happened to him between the original story and the sequel?

He "died" in the original and in the sequel he's miraculously alive. The guys want me to tell you that there's lot of Rainbird info on the site juicy stuff!

What was it like working with my favorite actor Malcolm McDowell?

Awesome. He is like Puck from Midsummer Night's Dream. Mischief, mischief, mischief…impish.

Were you a Stephen King fan prior to Firestarter: Rekindled?

In spirit, but this is the first book I've read. I loved it. Any recommendations? What's the best?

In the Book they the shop was worried that Charlie would in time be able to start nuclear explosions....will they explore that in the series?

Yes...isn't that fun?

How does Firestarter: Rekindled fair with your past projects?

It was the best.

What did you look to for inspiration in creating your characterization of Charlie?

The perfume, (laughing) a great pair of jeans. Oh...my...gawd...

Charlie's father was an important character in the original Firestarter. In the sequel he's dead. Does Charlie have a mentor she can turn to-to help and protect her?

See? Another problem. No.

Can you talk about the music?

There was a great 'Rage Against the Machine' song that was used in the bar scene in Firestarter the first night, but we couldn't get the rights to it because they're mad expensive. It's perfect I think it's track 4.

Can you tell us more about Charlie and Vincent? When does he discover her powers?

After a raging night of sex.

What other actors or what directors have had the most impact on you and the way you work?

David Wayne - director of 'Wet Hot American Summer', Dennis Hopper was rad, Malcolm McDowell - very cool.

After climbing inside Charlie's skin do you think that anyone with that kind of special power can ever really be happy, or safe in the world?

Yes, they could be happy. Transcendence and acceptance are the grandest challenges of life. Safe? this world is a dangerous place and she's a time bomb

At this point the "hour" was up, they started 15 minutes late, but she said she wanted to stay and answered my other question.

Do you have any funny stories about you and Malcolm McDowell from the set?

We went to a Ben Harper concert, he was hounded, and he had no idea who Ben Harper was. So all these kids, very cool kids, were coming up and asking him about 'Singin' In the Rain'. It was funny…maybe you had to be there, standing in line at the beer garden watching everyone discover him. There were lots of Star Trek references. Is that my sick humor to watch him get uncomfortable? But it was (funny).

What was the scariest moment during the shooting of Firestarter: Rekindled?

When I was walking through the alley and thought I was on fire. I couldn't break the scene because we could only do it once. It got really hot, you don't understand. I did the mental focusing of my life to not RUN but to try and maintain some sense of character because I REALLY, REALLY thought my hair was on fire.
