Jareth’s Story
Sarah quickly dropped to
the floor kneeling over the fallen man who was unconscious. She rolled him over, cradling his head on
her lap. He seemed to be at piece
except that he was a mess. She didn’t
really know what to do. Looking down at
his chest, he noticed that he was breathing but his medallion was gone. For the past three months she thought she
destroyed him but here he was lying on the living room floor.
“Sarah,” a voice cracked.
Sarah looked towards
Jareth’s eyes to see the mismatch eyes staring at her.
“Jareth, what happened?”
“Let me first rest,” he
whispered.
“Sure, Let me help you on
to the couch,” she said.
Sarah helped Jareth into a
sitting position so she could get up.
Taking his arm, she ducked under the arm and lifted him up and
practically dragged him to the couch.
Once he was lying on the couch, Sarah went into the kitchen to get a
glass of water for him. When she
returned to the living room, he was trying to sit up. She rushed over, placing the glass on the coffee table and pushed
him back down.
“You don’t have much
strength,” she said. “Here’s some water
for you.” She handed him the glass.
“Thank you,” he said.
“Rest. I’m going to go upstairs and check on
Toby.” Without waiting for a reply, she
took off up stairs to her parents’ room.
She knew that Toby was fine but she just had to leave the room to get
away from him. She stopped at her
parents’ bedroom door.
“Ok,” she said to
herself. “Jareth is the living room and
it appears that he’s been injured. But
that dream and phone call? I have to find
out what the truth even if I have to be friendly with him.”
Sarah waited another few
minutes before returning to Jareth.
When she got downstairs, Jareth seemed a little bit better.
“Are you strong enough to
do some explaining?” she asked politely.
“Yes,” he said. “First of all Sarah you need to know, you
did not destroy me or the Labyrinth.
Right after you defeated me, I was angry with myself for losing. During my anger, my guard was done and one
of my archenemies found out that the Labyrinth was defeated. So she was able to
break through gates of the Goblin City and conquer the Labyrinth.
“All the creatures of the
Labyrinth including Hoggle, Sir Didymus, and Ludo are under their
control.” He looked at her as she sat
down in a chair. “They are under
hypnosis and have no memory of you or anything else. She tried to do the same for me but that proved to be
useless. As powerful as I am, there is
no way that I can be corrupted. I’ve
been held captive in my own castle, in the dungeon, being tortured until I
die. Once I die, my power will be
passed on to the person on the throne, my sister Leetris.”
“You…you have a sister!”
Sarah gasped.
“Yes. In fact I have two sisters. One evil, one good.”
“Ok,” Sarah said
slowly. “That explains why you are
injured but doesn’t explain how you got here or this weird phone call I had
earlier.”
“You had a weird phone
call?” Jareth asked quickly. “That
means my sister has escaped. What did
the she say?”
“It said ‘you defeated the Labyrinth and now I haunt your dreams and thoughts of the man you last saw. Someone who once lived in the Labyrinth and now haunts you. If you want the haunting dreams to stop you better find away to bring back the king.’ I don’t understand.”
“I know exactly what she meant.” Jareth sat up with difficulty. Sarah was a bit too stunned to stop him. “There’s a prophecy in the Underground that says ‘the first person to defeat the Labyrinth and its king, will have to help him if the Labyrinth ever becomes endangered’. It seems Hellaka, has been in your world for a while and she’s been watching your dreams. Where she knew I was endanger, she used your dreams to get to you. She’s actually the keeper of dreams. And where you are the first person to defeat my Labyrinth, you are the only one who can help me.”
“But my dream…you were…in my dream,” she said.
“Yes, I was. Hellaka allowed you to go to me and from you wishing to speaking to me, the words freed me. When you are wishing as long as you say ‘right now’ afterwards, the wish will come true. It’s the way of the Labyrinth.”
Jareth abruptly leaned forward in pain. Sarah was at Jareth’s side in an instant. She helped him back in a sitting position. “Sarah,” he said with great difficulty. “You must help me to regain the Labyrinth back.”
“But how?”
“You must return with me to the Labyrinth,” he said very faintly.
Sarah unexpectedly felt his body heavier than before and realized he lost consciousness again. “Damn,” she cursed. “You’re unconscious and my parents are going to be home soon. The only thing I can do is lie to my parents.”
Just then her parents walked through the front door. “Sarah we’re home,” her father said.
Sarah looked at her father and stepmother and then to the unconscious man. She was out of time for an excuse.
(Second chapter complete.
Hopefully soon, the chapters won’t end in a cliffhanger. This time the chapter was a little longer
but not too much longer than the first but it’s getting better.)
