Unexpected Visitor

It had been three months since Sarah had her adventure through ‘his’ Labyrinth.  Ever since she returned home, all she could think about was ‘him’.  He invaded her waking thoughts and dreams.  Everywhere she turned, she could imagine his face.  Sarah thought she was going insane until one evening when she got stuck home babysitting her baby brother.

She was sitting down in the living room, reading a bedtime story book to Toby when she received a mysterious phone call.

“Hello,” she said holding Toby with one arm.

“Miss Sarah Williams,” the caller said in a deep voice.  “You defeated the Labyrinth and now I haunt your dreams and thoughts of the man you last saw.”

At the sound of the Labyrinth, a shiver went down Sarah’s spine.  “Who are you?” she demanded.

“Someone who once lived in the Labyrinth and now haunts you.  If you want the haunting dreams to stop you better find away to bring back the king.”  With that the caller hung up.

When Sarah heard the dial tone, she placed the phone back down with trembling fingers.  She looked down at Toby.  “Toby…I think it’s time to get you off to bed.” All she heard was the baby garble.  When she got Toby in his crib, she gave him a good night kiss and left the room.  The boy was sleeping within minutes.

Quietly, Sarah went back down stairs to think about the phone caller.  She picked up the book that she was reading to Toby and sat back in her chair, staring at the phone expecting it to ring again.  Before she knew it, she fell asleep.

“Sarah,” a voice whispered.  “Help me.  Help me.”

Sarah looked around and found herself in a closed in room with no doors or windows.  In fact the room was completely black expect for a light that hovered above her head.  The light seemed to come from nowhere.

“Who are you?  Where are you?” she asked to the voice.

“Sarah, help me.  Bring me back.  Believe in me,” the voice whispered again

Up ahead of her, Sarah saw a white shadow.  She ran towards the shadow hoping to catch up to it.  The light above her stayed with her.  “How can I help you?”

“Allow yourself to understand.  Allow yourself to realize.  Allow yourself to relive the magic that is within you.”

“With in me…” Sarah stopped just a few feet from the figure.  She finally could tell that the figure was injured.  Suddenly the figure’s words reminded her of her last confrontation with the Goblin King.  He had sung a song and said the words ‘within you’ to her.  Then words hit her, “Jareth!”

The figure turned around to reveal his face.  Sarah gasped at what she saw.  She saw Jareth but it was the man she last saw.  Instead now stood a man that was hurt and from the darken shadows, it looked like he was being held prisoner.

He looked at her as if with regret, pain, and wanting help.

“Help me.” Jareth said but his lips did not move.  Sarah was able to hear the words coming from all around the room.

Without thinking Sarah said with a soft, shaky voice.  “I wish for Jareth to be able to tell me what going’s on…right now!”

Sarah woke with a start to a sound on the floor.  At first she thought someone was knocking at the door but the sound had came from the floor not far from her feet.  She figured it was the book that she was holding since it no longer was in her hands.

Sarah stood from the chair and practically fell over something.  She looked to the floor to see a man lying on stomach.  His normally spiked hair was straight and matted with tangles.  His clothes were torn and dirty.  He didn’t seem to be a man of power at all.

“Jareth!” she gasped.

(All right people. The first chapter of my first novel for Labyrinth is complete.  Sorry for it being so short.  I’ll try and make the chapters longer.)
