Pyatiletka

Asteroid 2122, Pyatiletka, was discovered on December 14, 1971 by Tamara M. Smirnova at Nauchnyj, Ukraine. It has a period of 3 years, 264 days.

Pyatiletka means "five-year plan" in Russian. Pyatiletka was named on the fiftieth anniversary of the adoption of the first five-year plan for the development of the national economy of the Soviet Union.

Although some regulation of the economy is desirable, even necessary, it has been proven that too much control imposed upon an economy will strangle it.

Astrologically, Pyatiletka seems to indicate attempts to impose control, hegemony, overcontrol, stultifying conditions, misguided concern or idealism.

Nikolai Lenin had Pyatiletka decile Neptune (communism, idealism), sextile Heracles (to contend with), quintile Jupiter (philosophy), square Ceres (to nurture), and trine Elatus (eloquent expression) and Ixion (creating karma).

Chilean dictator Augusto Pinochet (born November 25, 1915 in Valparaiso, Chile), who took it upon himself to rescue Chile from socialism through ruthless dictatorship, has Pyatiletka conjunct Phaethon (in the driver's seat), sextile Elatus (eloquent or misleading expression), quintile the South Node (separation, past influences), square Hylonome (the cry of the people), and tredecile the North Node (connections).

John Ashcroft, whose ruthlessness as US attorney general led to numerous human-rights violations and misguided fascist legislation, has Pyatiletka conjunct Jupiter (religion, the law), semisextile Heracles (to contend with), semisquare Chiron (a stumbling block, need to pay attention), and trine Pallas (politics).

Michael Powell (born March 23, 1963, in Birmingham, Alabama), Federal Communications Commission chair under George W. Bush, who has proposed stiff fines for on-air indecency and encouraged concentration of the broadcast media in the hands of a handful of giant corporations, has Pyatiletka conjunct Cruithne (a mark, heritage), semisextile Mercury (the media, writing, speech, ideas) and Pandora (having an impact, stirring things up, unintended consequences), decile the Sun, trine Ixion (creating karma), and quindecile Pluto (power, regimentation, corporations).

Jacques Chirac, who signed off on a law forbidding "conspicuous religious symbols" (including hijabs, yarmulkes, crucifixes, and traditional cross-shaped chocolates) in French public schools in a misguided attempt to preserve the country's secular tradition, has Pyatiletka semisquare Saturn (rules, laws) and Ceres (nurturance) and trine Dioretsa (off course).

The glyph for Pyatiletka is mine.
