Peter

Asteroid 1716, Peter, was discovered on April 4, 1934 by Karl Reinmuth at Heidelberg, Germany, and named by Reinmuth after his grandson. It has a period of 4 years, 191 days and is about 20 1/5 miles in diameter.

Astrologically, asteroid Peter seems to have sexual meaning, perhaps metaphorical, informed by the fact that "peter" is vulgar slang for "penis." Peter may indicate activism. Peter may also have something to do with Roman Catholicism, a church said to have been founded by Peter, one of Jesus of Nazareth's original twelve disciples.

Defrocked Catholic priest, child molester, and advocate of pederasty Paul Shanley.

Pedophile priest and NAMBLA co-founder Paul Shanley (born January 25, 1931, in Boston) has Peter semisquare Vesta (commitment, focus), sextile Hylonome (the cry of the people), trine Ixion (creating something, generating bad karma), and biquintile Neptune (scandal, deception).

Porn star turned anti-porn activist Linda Lovelace, who said she had been forced into pornography by her husband, had Peter in her first house, conjunct her Sun (to shine, celebrity status, the husband), sextile Heracles (to struggle against) and Damocles (drastic change, experience of groupthink, pushing the envelope, transgressive), trine Lilith (reluctantly dealt with), and biquintile Ceres (to nurture).

Hugh Hefner, who brought pornography into the mainstream and whose Los Angeles mansion is famous for its hedonism, has Peter in the fourth house of home, square Chiron (the key, the groundbreaker, the door-opener), trine the Ascendant (personal interests), opposite Don Quixote (taking on the system), and contraparallel Cruithne (a brand name). (His daughter Christie Hefner runs the publishing empire he founded.)

Their much raunchier and more activist colleague Larry Flynt has Peter in the third house, sextile Venus (values, art), square Uranus (shocking), and trine Talos (to throw stones) and Nessus (raunchy).

Gennifer Flowers, a very noisy celebrity adulterer who since 1992 or so has maded a life of harassing and badmouthing her former paramour Bill Clinton and his wife alike in the media and the courts, has Peter semisquare the Sun, sextile Mercury (the media), and square Chiron (self-wounding), quincunx Hidalgo (to promote, to assert) and opposite Saturn (work, rewards and consequences).

Gary Hart, whose political career was destroyed when allegations of adultery he denied checked out after all, has Peter conjunct the Ascendant in the first house, conjunct Dioretsa (wildly off track, stupidity, something that sticks) and square Venus (values, love, marriage, adultery) and Vesta (dedication).

Fred Phelps (born November 13, 1929, in Meridian, Mississippi), a perfervid, obsessed anti-gay bigot who has sired thirteen children (and allegedly abused them and his wife), has Peter conjunct Pandora (stirring things up, making a splash, having an impact), decile Mars (anger, violence), sextile Hidalgo (to promote, to defend, to assert, machismo), square Pluto (deep-seated problems), parallel Juno, and contraparallel Neptune (hysteria, delusions).

Rush Limbaugh, called by some an obnoxious loudmouth, has Peter on the IC in the third house, trine the Sun, square Mars, semisquare Uranus (broadcasting, activism), square Pluto (mass action, unscrupulous behavior), parallel Phaethon (a phenomenon), and contraparallel Chiron and Hidalgo, as well as opposite the Midheaven (career, reputation, authority). Sex doesn't seem to be an issue or really much of a concern with him, but he has made a career of, and his name synonymous with, over-the-top propagandistic attacks on liberals and liberalism.

Pope John Paul II has Peter conjunct the Midheaven in the tenth house semisextile Pandora (to have an imnpact), sextile Cruithne and Phaethon (a phenomenon, in the driver's seat), and quincunx Uranus (activism, uniqueness, independence).

Pope John Paul I (born Albino Luciani on October 17, 1912 in Belluno, Italy), his immediate predecessor, who died in office after only a few weeks as Pope, had Peter conjunct Juno (to relate), semisextile Hidalgo, sextile the Sun and Hylonome, and quintile Ceres.

He had named himself after his two most recent predecessors as pope, Paul VI and John XXIII. Paul VI (born Giovanni Montini on September 26, 1897 in Sarezzo, Italy) had Peter conjunct Heracles (to struggle against), semisextile the South Node, semisquare Mars, sextile Ceres (the family), quintile Neptune, trine Pallas (politics), quincunx the North Node, and opposite Nessus.

Pope John XXIII (born Angelo Roncalli on November 25, 1881) in Sotto il Monte, Italy), who called the Second Vatican Council and has been called "Good Pope John" by some and an illegitimate pontiff by a traditionalist fringe who reject Vatican II's reforms, had Peter conjunct Cruithne (to be stigmatized or nicknamed), square Jupiter (church law) and Chiron (the door-opener), and quincunx Uranus (making changes, refreshing).

Pope Pius XII (born Eugenio Pacelli on March 2, 1876 in Rome), who was Pope during World War II and has been accused of not doing enough to help the Jews the Catholic Adolf Hitler was massacring, had Peter trine Chiron (self-wounding).

St. Maximilian Kolbe (born Rajmund Kolbe on January 8, 1894 in Zdunska Wola, Poland) landed in Auschwitz for his work in the Polish Resistance during World War II and was martyred when he volunteered to take the place of a man who had been chosen by the camp commandant to be starved to death with nine others in reprisal for the escape of another inmate. St. Maximilian had Peter sextile Chaos (activism) and square Venus (values) and Nessus (predation).

St. Bernadette of Lourdes (born Bernadette Soubirous on January 7, 1841 in Lourdes, France) had Peter conjunct Neptune (spirituality, visions), semisextile Cruithne (to be marked), semisquare Mercury (to speak) and trine Elatus (eloquent expression).

César Chavez had Peter in the eighth house of legacies, conjunct the Moon (the public, food) and quincunx Neptune (ideals) and the Ascendant (personal interests, the body).

Martin Luther King, who was blackmailed unsuccessfully by his enemies with allegations of adulterous affairs, had Peter in the fourth house of the home and family and circumstances at life's beginning and end, opposite the Sun (to shine, to lead), quincunx Saturn (work, career, rewards and consequences) and square the Ascendant.

The glyph for Peter is mine: a Christian ichthus turned on its tail to represent...well, it should be obvious.
