Asteroid 5180, Ohno, was discovered on April 6, 1989 by Tetsuya Fujii and Kazuo Watanabe at Kitami, Hokkaido, Japan. It has a period of 3 years, 254 days. It was named in honor of Japanese software developer Keiko Ohno (born 1959), "for her activities in promoting the public awareness of the study of astronomy and space science"( (Minor Planet Circular 25653).
Astrologically, asteroid Ohno seems to mean what its name might suggest to an English speaker: "oh,no!", that is, dismay, or horror, or denial.
On 9-11, at the time the first hijacked jet hit the World Trade Center, Ohno was conjunct Neptune(deep feelings, hysteria, paranoia, culture), semisquare Chiron, and trine Vesta. We had learned a very hard lesson.
At the time of the Chernobyl nuclear accident, Ohno was conjunct the East Point, sextile the Moon (the public, sense of security), and square the Midheaven.
When San Francisco Mayor George Moscone and Harvey Milk were assassinated in their offices in San Francisco City Hall, Ohno was conjunct Mercury, semisquare Juno (the disadvantaged), square the Nodes, and sesquiquadrate Jupiter (the law).
When George W. Bush was inaugurated as president, Ohno was on the cusp of the ninth house, square 1999 TD10, indicating the forced, dubious nature of his accession to office, and also square 1999 TX300, indicating the dismay many sophisticated, largely urban liberals felt over Bush's conservative, basically rural political philosophy; and trine Agamemnon (sudden attacks)--a harbinger of things to come.
Hillary Rodham Clinton has Ohno conjunct Saturn, square the Nodes, and trine Mercury, indicating the intense fear her political enemies have of her work and ideas, not to mention some of the people with whom she is associated, like her husband.
Bill Clinton has Ohno in the seventh house, opposite Chiron, sextile the North Node and trine the South Node. His steering of the Democratic Party further toward the center came at a price; he is as roundly hated by some liberals who didn't get what they wanted from him as he is by many on the political right.
The glyph for Ohno is mine.
