Asteroid 1143 Odysseus, a Trojan asteroid associated with Jupiter, was discovered on January 28, 1930 by Karl Reinmuth at Heidelberg, Germany.
Odysseus
The asteroid was named for a well-known Greek mythological figure, Odysseus, king of Ithaca, an island off the west coast of Greece. Odysseus was a leader of the Greek forces during the Trojan War, a master of stratagem who conceived the Trojan Horse strategy that finally allowed the Greeks to conquer Troy. After Troy fell, Odysseus wandered for ten years before finally coming home. His adventures are recounted in Homer's immortal epic poems The Iliad and The Odyssey.
Captain James T. Kirk of Star Trek, legendary (fictional) spacer, master of stratagem, and eternal wanderer.
Astrologically, Odysseus indicates wiles and stratagems, playing games, wandering around, "taking the scenic route," exile, to be sent away from what one considers to be one's home extended journey or absence, expatriate status, feeling rootless or homeless or a stranger in a strange land.
The late, legendary martial-arts master and motion-picture action hero Bruce Lee had Odysseus prominent, conjunct his Pluto(and Chiron) in the eighth house, and also semisquare Asbolus; sextile Chariklo; square Venus, Mars, Pallas, and Nessus; squine(105 degrees) a conjunction of Hylonome and Varuna; trine the Sun; sesquiquadrate Chaos; and quindecile Pholus. He is almost if not more well known for the manner of his death, which occurred suddenly, by official report as a result of an allergic reaction to a painkiller, and has been attributed by some to shadowy, nefarious Chinese martial-arts masters who feared Lee would disclose their secrets. You may take that as you will.
Mary Shelley, the author of Frankenstein, led a wandering bohemian existence with her husband, poet Percy Bysshe Shelley, a notorious nonconformist who had abandoned his first wife, Harriet, who later committed suicide, for Mary, and had lost custody of his kids and basically been driven out of England. She began writing Frankenstein in Switzerland as a result of a suggestion by the Shelleys' associate and fellow exile Lord Byron. She, too, had Odysseus prominent, conjunct the Ascendant(and Asbolus, an asteroid strongly associated with horror), and also semisextile Chariklo, sextile Mars, quintile Jupiter and Uranus, square Mercury and Venus, trine Pluto and the Midheaven, and opposite the Moon.

Australian sailor and writer Alan Villiers had Odysseus in the tenth house, sextile Jupiter, Nessus, the Part of Fortune, and the East Point; trine Chiron; and quindecile Mars. His compatriot, media magnate Rupert Murdoch, another well-traveled man who eventually acquired U.S.citizenship and is known for his political conservatism(he owns the Fox TV network and Fox News Channel), has Odysseus in the tenth house of his chart also, square Vesta, Pholus and the Ascendant, trine Venus, biseptile Chaos, opposite Varuna and Hylonome, and parallel the Sun. Tina Turner, now an expatriate in France who has sworn off relationships after escaping her abusive marriage to fellow singer Ike Turner, has Odysseus in the eleventh house, sextile Hylonome and Varuna, square Chaos and Chariklo, trine the Part of Fortune; quindecile the Vertex; and contraparallel the Sun.
The glyph for Odysseus, not my invention, is apparently derived from the bow of Odysseus, which he used to vanquish the suitors of his wife Penelope who had arrogantly camped out in his house in his absence.
