Asteroid 7014 Nietzsche was discovered on April 4, 1989 at the European Southern Observatory at La Silla Mountain near Pedernales, Coquimbo, Chile by Eric W. Elst, who named it for German philosopher Friedrich Wilhelm Nietzsche(1844-1900). 7014 Nietzsche has a period of 3 years, 142 days.

Nietzsche's philosophy is very difficult to understand; some things he said ask to be quoted out of context in support of nasty causes such as Naziism, and he blasphemes frequently. He is perhaps best known for declaring, in his 1882 work The Gay Science, that God is dead:
Have you not heard of that madman who lit a lantern in the bright morning hours, ran to the market place, and cried incessantly, "I seek God! I seek God!" As many of those who do not believe in God were standing around just then, he provoked much laughter. Why, did he get lost? said one. Did he lose his way like a child? said another. Or is he hiding? Is he afraid of us? Has he gone on a voyage? or emigrated? Thus they yelled and laughed. The madman jumped into their midst and pierced them with his glances.
"Where is God?" he cried. "I shall tell you. We have killed him — you and I. All of us are his murderers. But how were we able to do this? How were we able to drink up the sea? Who gave us the sponge to wipe away the entire horizon? What did we do when we unchained this earth from its sun? Where is it moving now? Where is it moving now? Away from all suns? Are we not plunging continually? Backward, sideways, forward, in all directions? Is there any up or down left? Are we not straying as through an infinite nothing? Do we not feel the breath of empty space? Has it not become colder? Is not night and more night coming on all the while? Must not lanterns be lit in the morning? Do we not hear anything yet of the noise of the gravediggers who are burying God? Do we not smell anything yet of God's decomposition? Gods also decompose. God is dead. God remains dead. And we have killed him. How shall we, the murders of all murderers, comfort ourselves? What was holiest and most powerful of all that the world has yet owned has bled to death under our knives. Who will wipe this blood off us? What water is there to clean ourselves? What festivals of atonement, what sacred games shall we have to invent? Is not the greatness of this deed too great for us? Must not we ourselves become gods simply to seem worthy of it? There has never been a greater deed; and whoever will be born after us — for the sake of this deed he will be part of a higher history than all history hitherto."
...It has been related further that on that same day the madman entered various churches and there sang his requiem aeternam deo[eternal requiem for God]. Led out and called to account, he is said to have replied each time, "What are these churches if they are not the tombs and sepulchers of God?"
Nietzsche speaks metaphorically: repulsed and disenchanted by the cruelty, corruption and jejuneness of our decadent religious traditions, we have experienced what Nietzsche in another work of his, Thus Spoke Zarathustra, calls "the great nausea" and decided that we will become the captains of our own souls, if not outright disbelievers in or doubters of the existence of deity. The old ways no longer satisfy us, so we will create our own; we will find what suits us and embrace it. We have become what Nietzsche called "the overman" — that is, we are people who have advanced to a higher level that the people who lived before us.
When God's murderers are allowed to roam free/The world teems with magicians," to paraphrase Jim Morrison, who is said to have been influenced by Nietzsche. And some are or have been black magicians. It is a great and awful thing to stand on your own two feet spiritually, and it has made us feel lost at times in a world filled with darkness; many have failed at this task, embracing evil or running back to the shelter of traditional ways.
Although you may not consider yourself a humanist, everyone has a Nietzsche in their chart, and it indicates how you handle the challenge of humanism — humanity as an autonomous entity capable of commanding power. How do you handle the power inherent in being a human being? Do you reject it, do you become drunk with it, do you use it irresponsibly, or wisely? Do you aspire to be all you can be, or not?

Janis Joplin turned her back on her straitlaced blue-collar hometown of Port Arthur, Texas and went to Hollywood to live a lifestyle as a rock singer that was about as far from her old life as you can get before dying an untimely death from a heroin overdose at age 27. She was a groundbreaker as a female rock(as opposed to pop) performer, but this did not immediately translate into lots of other female rockers, who still have to fight for respect. Port Arthur, which she repudiated, scandalized with her lifestyle and publicly criticized, was slow to honor her and she is still not held in very high regard there. Schwarzenegger is best known for his role as The Terminator, a formidable human-machine hybrid endowed with immense physical and mental abilities and toughness who can serve as assassin or bodyguard depending on how he is programmed, and rugged science-fiction and action-adventure roles are his forte, but he has done well in comedies. He is reportedly notorious in Hollywood as a practical jokester.
