Asteroid 13620, Moynahan, was discovered on March 23, 1995 by the Spacewatch project at Kitt Peak Observatory near Sells, Arizona. It has a period of 5 years, 281 days.
Moynahan was named for Dan Moynahan (born 1971), a computer programmer working at the University of Arizona's Lunar and Planetary Laboratory who worked with the infrared instruments of the Cassini spacecraft on its mission to Saturn.
However, asteroid Moynahan's astrological meaning seems to be inspired by Daniel Patrick Moynihan (1927-2003) (similar, but not identical, spelling).
Senator Daniel Patrick Moynihan
Daniel P. Moynihan was Hillary Rodham Clinton's immediate predecessor as senator from New York. He was an expert on the welfare system and its social and psychological effects and was a critic of the American public-assistance system long before it was fashionable.
Specifically, Moynahan seems to relate to charity, getting something unearned or not worked for, getting "a free ride", awareness of its effects and attitudes toward it.
Daniel P. Moynihan (born March 16, 1927 in Tulsa) had Moynahan quintile Mercury (ideas, speaking, writing) and quincunx Don Quixote (taking on the system).
Bill Clinton, who promised to reform the welfare system in the US and essentially did, though he had reservations about the Republican-authored law he eventually signed, has Moynahan in the eighth house of legacies, sextile Pandora (unintended consequences, having an impact), square Pluto (transformation, mass movement) and quincunx Venus.
Ted Kennedy, a longtime supporter of many federal entitlement programs, has Moynahan square Jupiter (philosophy, generosity), trine Vesta (dedication), quincunx Uranus (activism), and opposite Chiron (lessons taught or learned) and Don Quixote.
Paris Hilton, a very wealthy woman who doesn't really have to work, has Moynahan quincunx Vesta.
Homeless Italian woman Loredana Nimis, a runaway who endured murder attempts and eventually died of a drug overdose, had Moynahan in the first house, cusping the second, sextile Jupiter.
David W. Oakley (born September 29, 1966, in Fond Du Lac, Wisconsin), a Manitowoc, Wisconsin man who fathered nine children by four different women and was the subject of a controversial court order forbidding him to father any more children until he could support the ones he'd already sired, was born in the infirmary of a women's prison and has spent much of his life behind bars, working only sporadically. He has Moynahan conjunct Mercury and Pandora and trine Pholus (public folly, need for proper respect).
The glyph for Moynahan is mine; I was thinking about a panhandler or Salvation Army bellringer receiving money from a passersby when I conceived it.
