Mohorovicic

Asteroid 8422, Mohorovicic, was discovered on December 5, 1996 at Farra d' Isonzo, Italy. It has a period of 5 years, 38 days.

Mohorovicic was named for Croatian geologist Andrija Mohorovicic (1857-1936), who was the first to realize that the interior of Earth has a layered structure, with the crust overlaying a denser mantle and the boundary between them about 20 miles below the earth's surface. This boundary is known as the Mohorovicic discontinuity (or Moho for short). Attempts were made in the 1960s by American scientists to drill through Earth's crust to the mantle beneath the ocean floor, but the great cost involved and the inadequate technology of the time scuttled the project. Mohorovicic also did research on earthquakes, and, early in his career, did work in meteorology, especially destructive phenomena like hail and tornadoes.

Astrologically, asteroid Mohorovicic seems to indicate repression, repressed rage, feeling confined, frustration, awareness of boundaries, eruptions.

Anything repressed will out, and tends to be destructive or negative when it does find release.

Italian astrologer Francesco Schiavinotto has done some research into Mohorovicic and earthquakes and volcanic eruptions as well.

Rodney King, whose beating at the hands of rogue Los Angeles police officers led to rioting when his attackers were acquitted, has Mohorovicic in the twelfth house, sextile Jupiter (the law).

Thomas Junta, a Massachusetts truck driver who beat another man to death in an argument over a youth hockey game in front of their sons and was sent to jail, has Mohorovicic opposite Vesta (dedication).

Surly, sometimes violent country singer Johnny Paycheck, best known for his classic 70s hit "Take This Job And Shove It," had Mohorovicic trine Venus (art, singing, values, indignation), sesquiquadrate Pallas (politics) and quincunx the Sun (to shine).

Columbine shooter Eric Harris, a notoriously volatile and rage-filled character who took depression medication, had Mohorovicic in the sixth house of health, trine the Midheaven (reputation, relations with authority) and quindecile the Ascendant (personal interests).

His partner in crime Dylan Klebold had Mohorovicic in the ninth house, semisextile Mars (rage, aggression), tredecile Pluto (criminality, secret and subversive activities) and contraparallel Neptune (deception, confusion). Both had previous trouble with the law for an auto burglary.

Oregon school shooter Kip Kinkel, who had a learning disability, has Mohorovicic conjunct Venus (values, adolescence, social life), semisquare Mercury (thinking, reading, writing) and sextile Saturn (consequences, punishment, imprisonment).

Candy Lightner, who founded Mothers Against Drunk Driving after her daughter was killed by a drunk driver who received a lenient sentence, has Mohorovicic parallel Uranus (activism), Pluto (transformation) and Pallas (politics) and contraparallel Ceres (nurturance) and the South Node (taking in).

Madalyn O'Hair, an atheist activist who suffered incredible persecution for her beliefs, had Mohorovicic in the tenth house of reputation and career, quindecile the Moon (the public).

Country singer Natalie Maines (of the Dixie Chicks), who has sometimes expressed liberal views and criticism of George W. Bush and once recorded a song with her bandmates about two women who murder the abusive husband of one of them, has Mohorovicic semisextile Vesta, sextile Uranus and quintile Venus.

Ozzy Osbourne has Mohorovicic sextile Neptune (music).

Marilyn Manson, who came from a comfortable middle-class Midwestern background and attended parochial schools, and frequently takes jabs at traditional religion in his lyrics and stage performances, has Mohorovicic in the fourth house, sextile Jupiter, Uranus and the South Node and trine the North Node.

The talented, volatile, troubled singer/actor Courtney Love has Mohorovicic in the third house of the media, sextile the Ascendant, trine Uranus, biquintile the Midheaven, and contraparallel Mars.

The glyph for Mohorovicic is mine.
