Memnon

2895 Memnon, a Trojan asteroid associated with Jupiter, was discovered on January 10, 1981 by Norman G. Thomas at the Anderson Mesa unit of Lowell Observatory in Flagstaff, Arizona. It has a period of 11 years, 344 days. Thomas named it for King Memnon of Ethiopia, who brought an army of 10,000 soldiers to Troy to aid his uncle Priam, slew Antilochos and was killed by Achilles. He was turned into a statue in Egypt which faced the east and sang every morning at dawn.

Memnon.

Astrologically, Memnon signifies freshness, celebrating change and newness, matutinal things(that is, things associated with the morning), minding other people's business, intervening in affairs not one's own, prying, being a busybody, trying to manage the lives of others, Big Brother however you want to put it; also, being spied upon, being under surveillance, being scrutinized, being put under the microscope, being regulated, suffering intrusion or loss of privacy or freedom; micromanagement, totalitarianism, trying to suppress what you don't agree with.

Anita Bryant, the self-destructive singer and anti-gay-rights activist, once had a deal to promote Florida Orange Juice, a beverage strongly associated with breakfast, and could project a fresh, clean, happy image. She has Memnon in the sixth house, on the Descendant, semisextile Pandora(making a splash, acting with unforeseen consequences) and the Black Moon(wildness); undecimal Pholus(to pay the price for failing to show respect); nonile the Aries Point(fame); semisquare the Sun(to shine, be well-known); sextile Jupiter(religion, prosperity); biundecimal Juno(marriage, the oppressed); quintile Saturn(work, career, consequences); square Venus(art, singing, values, indignation), Uranus(homosexuality, revolution), Vesta(dedication) and Nietzsche(acting as if one is above codes of ethics); trine Daedalus(the artful dodger) and Stentor(speaking loud and clear); trine/sextile the Nodes(connections, the need to overcome past conditioning, such as bigotry); biquintile Chiron(lessons taught); quadnonagon Pluto(mass movements); opposite Simpson(to have one's misbehavior come home to roost at long last); and contraparallel Lilith(the marginalized, people you have to learn to live with), Hammurabi(harsh codes of ethics), and Antenor(being seen as subversive).

Princess Diana, from the moment she married Prince Charles, spent virtually her entire life under the microscope of the media, who did everything but follow her into the bathroom, and reportedly continued to snap pictures of her rather than trying to help as she was bleeding to death in her totaled limousine. However, she used this fame quite well to promote worthy causes like AIDS research and landmines. She was a teenager, considerably younger than Prince Charles, when first she came to the world's attention, and had a fresh, lovely appearance. She had Memnon conjunct Abanderada(to wave a banner); sextile Jupiter(philosophy, religion, foreign travel), BAM(to be blown apart), and Sisyphus(frustration); square Mars(aggression, cars, accidents), Pluto(things happening on a worldwide scale), Chiron(ingenuity, the maverick, the key, lessons taught or learned), the Nodes, Pandora(to make an impact, to shake things up, seeking stimulation), and Requiem; trine the Vertex(significant or idealized relationships), the Part of Fortune(the unfoldment of the life), the Aries Point(fame), Don Quixote(taking on The Way Things Are), and Panacea(solving problems); biquintile the Sun(celebrity, prominence, to shine); quincunx Mercury(the media), Lilith(having to live with something, the outcast) and Rousseau(back to basics, banished as a threat); quadnonagon Vesta(dedication); opposite Nessus(the predator), Hylonome(popular appeal, dealing with bereavement), Phaethon(out of control), Armor, Astraea(having trouble letting go), Marathon(going on and on and on), and Robinhood(taking from the rich to give to the poor); parallel Varuna(hugeness, vastness, primness, stiffness, judgmental attitude), Jabberwock(slain monsters), and Sophia(rejected ideas); and contraparallel Thetis(all people are mortal and imperfect).

Ed Gein, as a result of his grave-robbing and murdering, spent much of his life in state jails and mental hospitals. His life has been exhaustively documented, and has been the inspiration for numerous books and movies and the classic horror-fiction characters Norman Bates(created by Robert Bloch in his novel Psycho) and Hannibal Lecter(created by Thomas Harris in his novel Red Dragon and developed further in the subsequent novels The Silence Of The Lambs and Hannibal.) Gein had Memnon conjunct Pallas(protecting civilization); undecimal Chariklo(glamor); sextile House(things happening at home) and Jabberwock(slain monsters); square Neptune(mental illness, institutions, helplessness), Tisiphone(retribution), Thalia(jokes), Nietzsche(lawless behavior), and Nyctimene(to be taken away); biseptile Uranus(the bizarre and sensational); trine the Moon(the public, women, the mother), Mercury(the media, writings, literature), Mars(aggression, violence, weapons, butchery), Rhiannon(accusations, exile, imprisonment), and Midas(fatal oversights, lapses of judgment, making money); opposite Venus(values, art); parallel Aesculapia(psychiatrists), Ariadne(betrayal), and Aquilegia(tragedy); and contraparallel Pluto(insane people; dark, secret doings), Pholus(infection, to insinuate oneself in, showing or not showing respect), and Tithonus(powerless to do anything).

J. Edgar Hoover, who as FBI director kept dossiers on everyone in sight and cooperated with Richard Nixon's skulduggery until the latter trespassed on his turf by trying to block the Watergate investigation, and capitulated to blackmail by La Cosa Nostra regarding his homosexuality, had Memnon in the third house, conjunct Heracles(to strive with, to overcome) and the Aries Point(fame); undecimal Valentine(relationships); decile Sootiyo(capitulation); sextile Lilith(having to resign oneself to something), McAuliffe(liabilities), and Walpurga(the bogeyman); biundecimal Pluto(investigation, skulduggery) and the East Point(how the world sees you); square Mercury(the media, writings), Jupiter(the law, philosophy, prosperity, expansion) and Nietzsche(lawless behavior); trine Pallas(politics, defending civilization), Ceres(nurturance), Asbolus(advice not taken, awful things), BAM(to be blown open), House(one's private life), Industria(busy), Rousseau(to banish as a threat), and Sisyphus(frustration, like trying to kill the Hydra); sesquiquadrate Uranus(liberal or revolutionary organizations) and the Vertex(significant or ideal relationships); quincunx Saturn(career, hard work, reputation); opposite Chiron(ingenuity, lessons taught or learned); parallel Abanderada(to raise a banner, activism, union activity, the poor and oppressed, "screwed over"), Requiem, Summa(consummate achievement), and Torricelli(upheaval, uproar); and contraparallel Ariadne(betrayal).

Heinrich Himmler, head of the Gestapo, Hitler's secret police, had Memnon in the eighth house of legacies, conjunct the Sun(to shine, celebrity, prominence), Torricelli(upheaval, in trouble), Tithonus(rendered impotent at last), Casanova(selfish pleasure); quindecimal(15-degree aspect) Mercury(writings, thoughts, speeches), Antenor(acting to the detriment of one's own country or people), and Eurydike(success eventually lost); quattuordecimal(25 degrees, 42 minutes) Hammurabi(harsh treatment, an eye for an eye); semisextile Sootiyo(raising expectations of a savior), Melpomene(tragedy), and Ophelia(disproportionate reactions, counterproductive tactics); undecimal Sassi(to give the finger to others' ideas of correct behavior); decile the Vertex(significant relationships); semisquare Venus(values); septile Jupiter(the law, philosophy); sesquidecile(54 degree aspect) Uranus(broadcasting, technology); sextile Asbolus(good advice ignored and bad advice taken, awful things), Astraea(unable to let go of something or put an end to something), Helio(doing one's job well), Apollo(intense focus, crisis management, hypnotic effect, futile effort), and Cheshirecat(enjoying oneself immensely, having the last laugh); sesquiseptile(77 degrees, 8 minutes) the Part of Fortune(the unfoldment of the life); square Pallas(politics), Pandora(making a splash, stirring things up, making mischief), Rousseau(defined in simple terms), Walkure(getting others to do one's dirty work), Cupido(cultural issues, maintaining a front), Paradise(a vision of the way things should be), Volta(to electrify, to galvanize), and Hera(rights issues); biseptile Chiron(ingenuity, lessons taught or learned); trine the Ascendant(how you look, personal interests), Pluto(mass movements, criminal behavior, mass destruction, genocide), Chariklo(glamor), Varuna(the enormity of something, judgment), Marathon(something that goes on and on and on), Utopia(utopian visions), Psyche(psychological impact), Abanderada(waving a banner), and Hephaistos(lameness); quindecile the Moon(the public); opposite Ramirez(invasion by evil); parallel Niobe(getting in trouble through a talent or source of pride); and contraparallel Don Quixote(taking on The Way Things Are, driven mad with an idea), Urania(putting a lot of thought into something), Astraea(unable to let go of something), Daedalus(the expert craftsperson, the artful dodger), and Child(things involving children).

The glyph for Memnon is my own conception.
