Lacrimosa

Lacrimosa was discovered on October 21, 1879 by Austrian astronomer Johann Palisa at Vienna. It has a period of 4 years, 336 days, and a diameter of 30.8 miles. The name means "weepy" in Latin; Palisa probably named it this because he lost this asteroid and had such a hard time finding it again it practically "made him cry." (My source says "lamentable and sorrowful difficulties.")

Astrologically, this is basically what Lacrimosa indicates: tears, sorrow, mourning, sadness, tragedy, suffering, ordeals, wailing, regret, empathy, bleeding hearts, precarious emotional control.

Weeping at Columbine.

Tammy Faye Messner(formerly Bakker), whose inclusive message has impelled many of her fellow Christian evangelists to turn their backs on her and who is noted for her overmadeup, lacrimose appearance and easy sympathy, has Lacrimosa in the first house of appearance, on the second cusp of values and earning potential. It is semisextile Ceres(nurturing); decile the Ascendant(appearance); septile the Sun(celebrity); sextile Phaethon(out of control), Mallory(taking on challenges) and Pinocchio(stupid lies); square McAuliffe(getting rid of liabilities); sesquiquadrate the Black Moon(wildness); trine Saturn(career), Uranus(breaking loose, broadcasting, homosexuality) and Neptune(compassion, ideality); parallel Lilith(the marginalized), Chariklo(glamor), and Hybris(hubris); and contraparallel Hygeia(cleaning something up).

Tragic African-American Hollywood star Dorothy Dandridge, who was abused and exploited by virtually everyone around her, including her own mother, had Lacrimosa in the sixth house. In her chart, it is vigintile Mars(violence); semisextile Pholus(showing respect); nonile Venus(art, beauty, love); septile Uranus; sextile the Sun, Don Quixote(taking on the System), Asbolus(horrible experiences), Varuna(grandness), Persephone(transition), and Perseverantia; binonile the Part of Fortune(unfoldment of the life); square Saturn(hard work), the Midheaven(career, reputation), Chiron, Philosophia, Ramirez(invasion by evil), and Volta(to electrify);sesquiquadrate Vesta(dedication); quincunx Neptune(motion pictures, exploitation, helplessness); opposite the Moon(the public, women, the mother) and the East Point(image in the world); and parallel Heracles(to strive), McAuliffe, and Hygeia.

Legendary French cabaret singer Edith Piaf, who led a tragic life of suffering, had Lacrimosa in the tenth house, undecimal Mars(violence, men); sextile Neptune(music) and Pholus(to insinuate something in); quintile the East Point; square Mercury(communication), Pluto(the unforgettable, self-injury) and the Vertex(significant others); tredecile Venus; trine the Moon, Damocles(danger, challenging, threats, politics) and Hybris; sesquiquadrate Ceres; triseptile the Part of Fortune; quadraundecimal Uranus; quindecile Pallas(to create) and Chiron(to learn, to teach, to introduce something new); opposite Nessus(the predator); and parallel Tara(easy traveling).

British identical twin criminals Jennifer and June Gibbons, who both ended up in mental institutions, had Lacrimosa in the eleventh house, conjunct the Sun; undecimal Simpson(juvenile delinquents, trouble catching up with you); sextile Saturn and the Midheaven; square Pallas, Asbolus(horrible experiences) and the Nodes; tredecile Venus, Mars, and the East Point; sesquiquadrate Ceres; quadraundecimal Uranus; opposite the Vertex; and parallel Juno(the rage of the oppressed).

The glyph for Lacrimosa is my own conception.
