Kitty

Asteroid 9563, Kitty, was discovered on September 21, 1987 by Edward Bowell at the Anderson Mesa unit of Lowell Observatory in Flagstaff, Arizona. It has a period of 3 years, 229 days

Kitty was named for broadcaster Katherine "Kitty" Putnam (born 1916), who was, from 1975 through 1984, president of the Springfield, Massachusetts, Television Corporation, and was the first woman elected to the board of the National Association of Broadcasters.

Astrologically, Kitty seems to indicate cats or catlike behavior (i.e., independence, promiscuity).

Jim Davis, creator of "Garfield", has Kitty conjunct Don Quixote (tilting at windmills), semisquare Neptune (imagination), square Stentor (loudly proclaimed), trine Thersander (coming into one's own), quincunx Heracles (to strive with) and opposite Okyrhoe (loyalty to one's own needs). He has succeeded hugely as a cartoonist, a field which very few have succeeded in.

Katherine Hepburn, a famously independent person, had Kitty in the third house, sextile Damocles (pushing the envelope) and the East Point (as the world sees you) and trine the Sun (to shine, be prominent), Actor (taking action) and Achilles (bravery).

Gloria Steinem, who refused to compromise her independence for marriage, has Kitty in the eighth house of legacies, conjunct the Vertex, semisquare the Moon (women, the public) and Ceres (to nurture), sextile Nessus (releasing emotional toxins), square Hidalgo (to promote, to defend, to assert), trine Saturn (hard work) and Damocles.

Hugh Hefner, founder of Playboy magazine, a famously hedonistic and promiscuous man who managed to make pornography mainstream in the US, has Kitty in the eighth house also, sextile Jupiter (success, high living, publishing), square the Nodes (connections) and 1999 CZ118 (making a crucial choice), trine Neptune (vision, scandal, photography), and quincunx Ixion (lust for life) and Elatus (self-expression).

Tennessee Williams, who was highly promiscuous and traveled widely, as if fearing attachment, had Kitty in the first house, conjunct Pelion (the cold, cruel world), semisquare the Sun, square Hidalgo and 2002 AW197 (tough, hard changes), and quincunx Neptune.

Oprah Winfrey, who has not married her longtime partner, has Kitty in the fourth house, on the IC, sextile the Sun and Venus, semisquare Neptune, and square the Ascendant.

George Mallory, who traveled widely in search of mountains to climb and was finally killed climbing Mount Everest, had Kitty semisquare Mercury, sextile Dolon (having to endure, having audacity), square Damocles, sesquiquadrate Uranus, and opposite Thersander (things catching up to you).

King Mswati III of Swaziland, who has numerous wives and has been known to kidnap and forcibly marry young women who strike his fancy, has Kitty conjunct Ceres (family life) and Actor (taking bold action), semisquare Pallas, trine Boucolion (backwardness) and 2002 VE95, and biquintile Vesta.

A Marshall, Texas animal abuser and horse breeder (born March 10, 1949, 11:30 p.m. CST, Marshall, Texas) who intentionally breeds cats with deformed front legs that cannot walk normally, has Kitty in the ninth house of philosophy, square Nessus (crossing the line, manipulative, exploitative, predatory), trine Chiron (self-wounding), Dolon, and Chariklo (attempts to popularize, loss of perspective) and opposite Eureka (a rude awakening).

The glyph for Kitty is mine.
