Asteroid 7470 Jabberwock was discovered on May 2, 1991, at the Oohira unit of Nihondaira Observatory in Shimizu, Shizuoka, Japan by Takeshi Urata. It has a period of 3 years, 168 days.
The Jabberwock
7470 Jabberwock was named for a monster created by Lewis Carroll in his 1872 poem "Jabberwocky":
'Twas brillig, and the slithy toves
Did gyre and gimble in the wabe;
All mimsy were the borogoves,
And the mome raths outgrabe.
"Beware the Jabberwock, my son!
The jaws that bite, the claws that catch!
Beware the Jubjub bird, and shun
The frumious Bandersnatch!"
He took his vorpal sword in hand;
Long time the manxome foe he sought
So rested he by the Tumtum tree,
And stood awhile in thought.
And, as in uffish thought he stood,
The Jabberwock, with eyes of flame,
Came whiffling through the tulgey wood,
And burbled as it came!
One, two! One, two! And through and through
The vorpal blade went snicker-snack!
He left it dead, and with its head
He went galumphing back.
"And hast thou slain the Jabberwock?
Come to my arms, my beamish boy!
O frabjous day! Callooh! Callay!"
He chortled in his joy.
'Twas brillig, and the slithy toves
Did gyre and gimble in the wabe;
All mimsy were the borogoves,
And the mome raths outgrabe.
(Carroll's own definitions of some of the terms used in this poem: Brillig: four p.m. Slithy: lithe and slimy. Gyre:To go round and round like a gyroscope. Gimble:to make holes like a gimlet. Wabe: a grassy plot around a sundial. Mimsy: flimsy and miserable.)
Astrologically, asteroid Jabberwock seems to indicate monsters that have been slain; that is, problems that have been taken care of, the ability to put an end to specific problems once and for all.
So attractive and so deadly: Paul Bernardo and Karla Homolkanow behind bars for murder, probably for life.
Betty Ford, whose willingness to publicly discuss her successful treatment for breast cancer and substance abuse helped lift the stigma from both breast cancer and inpatient drug-abuse and alcoholism treatment, has Jabberwock prominent: conjunct her Mars in the first house, and also opposite the Moon and ssquare Pallas. Marlene Dietrich, who left her native Germany rather than work with the Nazi regime, also had a prominent Jabberwock, conjunct her Mars, Jupiter and Saturn in the fifth house.
Ed Gein
Winston Churchill, who led Britain and helped lead the Allies in the defeat of Hitler, had Jabberwock in the sixth house, square the Sun and Vesta. Jeffrey Dahmer, who was murdered by a fellow inmate while serving life without parole in a Wisconsin state prison for a series of grisly cannibalistic sex murders, had Jabberwock trine his Uranus and semisquare his Pallas and East Point(how the world sees you). He reportedly was indifferent to the possibility of being murdered in prison. Ted Bundy, a cunning serial killer finally captured, tried, convicted and executed by the state of Florida, had Jabberwock sextile Chiron and semisquare Venus.
The glyph for Jabberwock is my own conception.
