Asteroid 6153 Hershey was discovered on July 19, 1990 by Eleanor F. "Glo" Helin at Palomar Observatory near Pauma Valley, California. Hershey has a period of 4 years, 287 days. It was named in memory of Wesley Lamar Hershey (1913-1989), who for thirty years was director of the Caltech "Y" at the California Institute of Technology in Pasadena, California for 30 years. Hershey was eulogized for his sympathetic, understanding, nurturing character.
Astrologically, Hershey seems to stand for what its name suggests: chocolate, perhaps as in "making chocolate (in one's pants)", i.e., fear; or perhaps lies or delusion. This excerpt from an old playground ditty may illustrate this last concept:
Ask me no more questions,
I'll tell you no more lies;
The cows are in the pasture
Making chocolate pies.
Milton Hershey, founder of the Pennsylvania-based candy firm that bears his name, had Hershey conjunct Mars, semisextile the Sun, semisquare Pallas (politics), trine Varuna (to inflate), and quincunx Neptune (idealism, liberalism, delusion) and 2002 TC302 (stress, political context). He saw himself as humanitarian and was shocked when labor protests rocked his company in the 1930s.
Nazi propagandist Joseph Goebbels had Hershey in the fourth house, conjunct his Sun (to shine) and Agamemnon (doing what one believes has to be done even though it's unethical), semisextile 1998 BU48 (the way things are), sesquiquadrate Neptune, quincunx 2002 VQ94 (to destroy), and opposite 2002 AW197 (widespread changes).
Richard Nixon had Hershey in the fourth house, conjunct 1998 BU48 and Sekhmet (zeal), semisextile 2002 TX300 (conservatism) and Eureka (a smoking gun), sextile 2002 TC302, Hylonome (the voice of the people) and Pelion (having to earn one's keep and failing to), and quincunx Neptune (scandal).
Charles Manson has Hershey in the fifth house, conjunct Dolon (audacity), sextile the Sun, Venus (art, young women), and the Part of Fortune (the development of the life), square Actor (taking action), trine the Midheaven (career, authority, reputation), sesquiquadrate the Moon (women, the public) and Ascendant (personal interests), sesquiquadrate/semisquare the Nodal axis (past conditioning and the ability to transcend it, connections), and quincunx Damocles (criminality; pushing the envelope; drastic change).
The glyph for Hershey, meant to suggest a Hershey's Chocolate Kiss, is mine.
