Magüi gets the decisive point for Spain in the Fed Cup

The Spanish Fed Cup team reached the second round of this tournament after defeating Hungary by 4-1 in the tie played at the Club de Tenis Almería.

In the fourth match, the Canarian Magüi Serna, whom the Spanish captain, Miguel Margets, gave the chance to play substituting Ángeles Montolio, sentenced the tie after defeating the number 2 of Hungary, Rita Kuti Kis, by 6-3 and 6-1.

Serna dominated the start of the match with her serve, which didn’t find a suitable answer of her rival. So, the first games were coming for the Spanish player, till the Hungarian reacted.

She broke Serna’s serve and the score was 3-2 for the Spaniard, but this one answered immediately with another break so Spain was leading by two games.

From then, the Canarian player combined long rallies with great drop shots near the net, what made the Hungarian run from one place to another on the court.

With 6-3, Magüi Serna closed the first set and the qualification of Spain for the next round was close, and she got this in the following set.

Kuti Kis won the first game in the second set with her serve, but at this moment appeared the Canarian ‘cyclone’. Serna won her serve and broke three consecutive times to end winning the match. The set only lasted 21 minutes.

The Spanish team will play the winner of Germany-Russia in the Fed Cup quarterfinals from 20 till 21 July.
